Dave says a Cessna is Cessna, you know.... 3 wheels, a top wing and boring. And all look the same. Is there a difference with Austers ? They sound like Cessnas to me. Have we had an idiots guide published here before ? We all know BRA is a J/5F. I think the number is the decades it takes to rebuild. Am I close ? With the Cessnas it is the dollar value of the standing costs per week. A very straightforward system. Same with the Dash number on the Pipers, PA32-300, PA28-140, PA38-112. Very easy for the first time buyer, I do a lot of pre-buy inspections and many people are not aware of how easy it is. The Tomahawk at $112 per week is outstanding value. Ah but only the cultured and well mannered can see the beauty and differences in the Auster breed. Any fool can land a Cessna or a Tomahawk but it takes real piloting skills to land an Auster. Value for money? Pfft. Where's the fun in that? Is the heat getting to you over there Kevin? Or lack of real aeroplanes?

Thanks Peter. I've found a photo of J5F CYQ (whose wings I have) and once I have permission from the photographer I'll post it up. Actually anyone else feel free to post photos of Austers whether old or new.

Haha, yes mate but Ray has been more than generous with his help. I am sure if I was to get really stuck he would help in a flash.
Ray, how about a pic of ADX, I have a couple when you picked her up from my place if need be

Although Paul Morrison (who rebuilt AYU for Charlie) was down to give AYU a 100hr check recently. When he did that last time he brought his J5G with him and it was in Charlies hangar. Here is the photo of CYQ I have permission to show. Taken by Barry Friend in March 1971 in Rotorua when he visited from the UK. Small world but he has family in Gisborne where BRA came from. As mentioned before my wings are actually from this aircraft. The fuselage of CYQ is a bare frame with Paul Morrison

An old photo I found of ZK-BWH not very good as was printed by Viko and faded badly. Needed a lot of PhotoShop to produce.

I've been in contact with a chap by the name of Dave Welch. He has a huge collection of photos from all over the world. Funnily enough during our emailing we realised he had taken a photo of Anthony's T7 in Hong Kong at the training school in 1972! He had been in contact with Anthony but had since lost touch. First photo of his is of J5 Adventurer AXJ taken at Mandeville in 2000: Next we have J1B with a Lycoming installed. Taken at West Melton in 1979. Crashed in 2000. I remember seeing this aircraft parked there and thought it was a Cub!

I was talking to a young lady today (working with us)and she was saying that her dad heard his old Auster is stored in bits in Dunedin. Anyone know of any there? She is going to ask for the Rego.
I think he would be keen to get her back and rebuild her. I am sure her husband would help as he is an engineer for Air NZ in Auckland

Cheers Anthony

I'm hanging around Bridge Pa this week, waiting for the howling winds to drop.
ZK-BAQ is sitting in the back corner of the hangar, flat tyres and covered in gunge. Obviously has not seen air under her wheels for many a year.
Sad.
