The latest edition of Classic Wings magazine is starting to hit the shelves and has some photos and text from the Hamilton airshow in Canada. Glad they used my favourite photo from that trip.

Love those head on shots Gavin. That last one is particularly good in B&W.

Only a head-on shot (or sometimes even a tail-on!) can show how clean are some of these classic designs. From side on the Lancaster for instance does not look particularly streamlined, but head on it is SO different - although the wing section is somewhat thicker than you would imagine. Also interesting to see the completely different "hanging" arrangements for the Lanc's engines - the outboard ones are well below the wings, but the inners are more merged into the wing itself, also the depths of the outer and inner engines are so different - why are the outers so deep for instance? Of course the Mosquito is the epitomy of clean design - definitely inspired aerodynamic and structural design by Bishop and company in 1939/40! David D
