I have been there setting up all yesterday and today. Lots of things are rolling into the venue today and it';s really coming alive. The weather has cleared up perfectly too. It's going to be a very good weekend, I hope.
I'm going to be really pretty busy through the day on both days I think. So if I see you guys around but don't stop to talk long please forgive me. Maybe we can meet up at the end of the day on Sunday for a proper gathering?

Humidity 96% and foggy, nill wind at the moment in Tokoroa. Sat 08:25. www.inmanavenue.com/ for my weather website. My optical sensor for solar is U/S so always says overcast and gloomy - sorry (well its correct today!) I have three webcams, www.inmanavenue.com/webcam.html all different directions and we're about 30kms South East of Karapiro. It's often foggy through Karapiro due to the wind shelter, cold air trap and moisture related to the river.

Well its 22.5ºC outside and very sunny - I guess its the same up the road at Cambridge - I hope you are enjoying the day Dave and others. Could get sunburnt quite easily today - not much wind either but NW and picking up - gusting to 22km/hr regularly. I am getting the chores done - clean out of the garage after 20 years and two funerals and left over insulation from second layer in ceiling - and mice...
Oh well, Karapiro tomorrow --- I'm looking forward to it!!

The weather was absolutely crackingly beautiful, perfect actually.
You missed some fantastic air displays. All of them were top notch. My mate said the first pass of the Mustang took him back to the 1980's as it was very much like Trevor Bland's low passes. The rest of his display with the Mustang sparkling in the sunshine was fantastic, the crowd reacting to that wonderful Merlin sound each time he passed by low.
But the absolute highlight was Dave Phillips really stealing the show with his water skiing in the Tiger Moth!!!! And such a fantastic display by him, the true master! He got five ovations from the crowd - three for each of the water skiing runs, one for the Falling Leaf, and one at the end.
As well as these highlights the Stearman looked gorgeous in the sunshine, the Grasshopper display was superb, Noel's Pitts display was as always awesome, and the P-40 was just excellent too.

I forgot to mention that sadly our regular commentator has ended up in hospital and so I've ended up having to do the air display commentary - thankfully with a little able help from Steve Petersen.
Man, it is so nerve racking, and scary trying to think, watch and talk concisely at the same time during an air display. I hope I didn't ruin people's experience with my commentary, haha. I have gained a whole new level of respect for what the commentators at airshows do. Mucho Respect!

Oh I hope someone got some good shots of Dave Phillips in his Tiger Moth! Sounds like this is going to be one of the top shows to go to!

Wow Dave, scary! Do you have a recording so you can review? Sent via Proboards Android App At least you are knowledgeable about what is flying around AND can relate some stories about the aircraft and pilots who flew them.

Errol, NO, I don't want to hear it again! I have to do it all again tomorrow too so you can hear from yourself.
I did manage to record this though between commentating stints. The first ski

Dave Phillips - fantastic!! Thanks for the short vid... I have only seen it on YouTube with big tyres on landing on the riverbeds etc... I do remember seeing his performance at Hood earlier this year in the Tiger Moth - just in the air obviously, but it was breath taking the skill he had with that slow plane, stalling, recovering, twisting and rolling - I was amazed then too, what he could do with that ancient machine!! Thanks Dave if you are logging on here Looking forward to 12:15 tomorrow!! BTW, we had a cold front come over or a trough, and we have had light rain since about 16:30, only 0.5mm recorded but its been fine up the road as the camera shows. Hope it passes over night and tomorrow turns out to be a cracker day! It looks like a fine day with light variable winds. 23 - 24deg the high.

Not a spot of rain here all day, and we've had a lovely calm fine evening with a nice sunset. Red sky at night, airshow's delight

A pity the Avenger could not make it. It was worth going just to see Dave Phillips water skiing! Cheers, Colin

Oh, brilliant shot Colin - excellent!!! A great afternoon despite the cloud - temps got to 24.5ºC here at Tokoroa this afternoon but not until 16:16, cloud held the temperature back at Karapiro which was probably a good thing. Nice to meet Kereru and errolc... A pity the TBF Avenger was not able to make it up from Ohakea because of the cloud cover - another major reason to get to the show! However David Phillips did not disappoint again with his mastery in his Tiger Moth - simply brilliant and breath taking... talk about walking on water - he was running and skipping... - photos to come. The Orion came through low and fast on her way through to Invercargill and further south to McMurdo Base later. The P51 was doing his passes over the lake as I arrived still issues with the full cloud cover initially so could not put on a full show apparently. More chores outside beckon.
