A question regarding the TBF; I and several others were further-down the lake and awaiting the commencement of the P-40 display and also the arrival of the Avenger. We had a good vantage point and the visibility down the lake (i.e. roughly South) was excellent. Although I didn't see it myself, two others (also aviation enthusiasts) who were nearby, were adamant that in fact the 'Kitty and TBF had actually met up and held formation for a few minutes immediately-prior to the commencement of the P-40 display. Indeed, they asked others nearby if they had seen this occurrence. As I said,I hadn't (although only because I was having camera 'difficulties'). The area would have been roughly around Putararu/ Mokai (ie, well south of Lake Karapiro). The time? Approx 1405-1410 The Avenger was scrubbed due to weather stopping it getting through from Ohakea. If the P40 did join up with another aircraft away from the Karapiro display, I doubt it would have been Plonky. Unfortunately I had to leave early on Sunday and missed the P40 display. Also my radio was being used to co-ordinate the displays and so I wasn't listening in to the traffic as I normally would. My contribution from Sunday short display but always spectacular! I have a few more pics of other activities however I left after the announcement the Avenger was not able to come. I have too many cloudy back ground pics hence my early departure. Cheers, Colin

Looooverly shot Colin!! Nice and crisp and still with some prop blur!! Thanks suthg. I always shoot prop planes at 1/200 second or slower. They look silly to me with frozen props in mid flight. Just my preference. Orion is easy to see with that long trail of smoke? :-) Cheers, Colin

Kereru - hey! - She's probably cleaner than she used to be!! Nice sweet pic of 05. The front S&R camera was pointing forwards this time. You can see the lake edge and some crowd in the reflection of the front panels... From Wiki I see the cruise speed is 328kts and 610km/hr, she was steamed up a bit, probably doing a bit nmore like 650kms/410mph. Max is said to be 410kts (750km/hr) or 466mph. Interesting.

I believe that this was the first ever public appearance of a P-3K2 by the way.

I believe that this was the first ever public appearance of a P-3K2 by the way. Can you tell the difference from the ordinary garden-variety P-3K by looking at it?

Nope. But I know for sure it was a P-3K2. It was NZ4205.

Just for details, NZ4202 when she came through WOW on 20th January this year, was still the P-3K version (after originally arriving as a P-3B in 10 December 1966) and has been converted now or not? It was more modern avionics and "stuff" wasn't it?

Did anyone get photos or footage of Noel's Pitts act? He was asking me today when I bumped into him in town.

Can you tell the difference from the ordinary garden-variety P-3K by looking at it? Very much so, the K2 has many more aerials under the fuselage, and a small radome where the bottom of the fuse starts to taper toward the tail.

Hi, Thanks for posting up a link to our blogs. I have a few more photos of Pitts that are okay, no nice close-ups though. The other guys I was with may have a couple of good ones.
