Anybody crossing the ditch to see this one? Or if in Oz hopping across to Melbourne for a look? It's on over 1 - 2 March, luckily for me it coincides with a work function & the firm is flying the wife & I across to Melbourne for the Friday night. We are then booked to fly back to NZ on Sunday morning to see family & friends both in Chch & Hawkes Bay before returning to Perth on the 6th. So I will take the wife along on the Saturday to this (no doubt kicking & screaming ) - looking forward to my first airshow for the year www.airforce.gov.au/Interact/Displays/Air-Shows/?RAAF-iBBIZGwstZ874cZM/cfL/Idc+u6Ro5VF

I didn't know anything about this until this afternoon when I saw this post. Thanks for putting up the link 11sgnldr. I think I will get along. Great excuse to visit a cousin of mine in Melbourne.

Be aware that all tickets have to be prepurchased. There is a limit on attendees. Don't rely on tickets being available at the gate.
cheers, CC

Nice one CC. Hotel, airline and airshow tickets sorted. Now I just need to arrange the weather. Shouldn't be too hard in Oz.

Folks, if anyone is coming over for the RAAF show you should also consider the great show at Tyabb on the other side of the bay the weekend following the RAAF event. Everyone there pulls out all the stops for Tyabb and there is a great selection of local warbirds to be displayed as well as 'guest' machines from interstate.

just found out I'm not working that weekend, which is a change...in the next 3 moths I'm missing wedding anniversary, and wife and kids birthdays cos I'm up the line. I bet airfares will be at a premium for this, but I'm very keen to take the boy over and enjoy it!

Im told that the Boxkite managed a hop this morning, yay! I got plenty of photos of it in the hangar yesterday, along with BE2a replica, and mossie restoration.
Some cloud this morning, a bit of wind too.

Also in Melbourne the Moorabbin aviation museum is also worth a visit, nice Beaufighter among other stuff, not far off course if you are driving from Point Cook to Tyabb, link below. www.aarg.com.au/

Had a beaut day at the airshow, we'll executed as always and plenty to see and do. I missed the Boxkite but enjoyed a good close up look in the resto hangar along with the Mossie project. After seeing them on the ground for the last three Aussie airshows it was good to finally see a Wedgetail display and another first was the inaugural display of the KC-30 tanker with drogues hanging out and a Hornet (not connected) tucked in tight. Photos to follow when we get back to Perth on Thursday. Chch tomorrow - hope the oyster boars have been out

Yes thanks, it was smooth - I don't know what the train station was like but the shuttles etc seemed to be running well. And just the one from this morning before I go to bed - well done everyone on the team! CMA140302_1055flr by errolgc, on Flickr

I had a great time at this airshow. Massive kudos to the organisers for the way the transport was arranged. We stayed in the centre of Melbourne, and had free travel all the way to Point Cook, first on the train and then on a shuttle bus. No waiting, no traffic jams. The show itself was great too, although some more blue sky would have been nice. I had to leave half way through on Sunday when it looked like the cloud was finally burning off. Photos by my girlfriend who was the self-appointed official photog for the day. I think there was some dust on the sensor, and we can't workout how to get nice prop blur, but we have ended up with a good record of the show I reckon. Boxkite in danger of hangar/tent rash early Sunday. There was a faint breeze and I was confident it would not fly. But then it turned up on the runway and... I was surprised at how much bird life was about. I cannot get enough of this P40F. There's something about the finish on the colour scheme that is just right. It was a treat to see the Hudson. And this formation was probably my highlight of the day after the Boxkite's flight. I was impressed by how spritely the Boomerang was. I expected it lumber about the sky, but it was pretty maneuverable. HARS' Catalina is really nice. The nose turret makes it look much more serious than the kiwi example. What's the story with the helicopter kill marking? Nice collection of tools in the hangar with the Boxkite and other older stuff (BE2?). Seeing this Sabre was a treat too. This and the Vampire made me recall a couple of Noel Kruse episodes of the Wings Over New Zealand Show. Cool little detail inside the door of the Temora Spitfire. Not quite a plugged barrel roll, but apparently the first display of this kind anywhere, ever. The Meteor was another first for me. I get the impression it needs to be nursed off the ground, but once it has some energy it is a nice performer. The F35 mockup was kind of interesting, as was the spot by one of the test pilots in commentary (which generally was stellar). It seems a bit pudgy, but only has about the same footprint as a Hornet I think. All in all a great weekend out. We even manged to catch up with friends and do some shopping (well, the female member of the party managed the shopping).
