I'm going to try and plan for an Auckland Aero Club contingent to go down - we missed the last one but admittedly I left it a bit late to try and organise.

So there is nothing on the website (or Facebook) about the theme? Not that I'm complaining, it's a fine theme!
There are a couple of possible early NZ replicas that could make an appearance - and a couple of Aussie ones if we are lucky!
Of course, pioneers doesn't have to just mean early aircraft, deer-catching demos anyone?

Sam and I discussed it today and we will be there! Going to star booking various bits and pieces. My first CF since 2009, and her first ever.

It involved a Hughes 300 helicopter dressed up as a sheep dog and a cocky on the ground herding sheep, which were blown-up wool bales (presumably with some sort of air-tight bladder inside them). It was absolutely hilarious, and involved some really crazy flying involving the helicopter. At one point the chopper helicopter cocked its leg and urinated on the ground next to the cocky. That got the crowd pissing themselves laughing. I don't know who the chopper helicopter pilot was, but he was bloody good.

In the latest FlyPast there is an article on Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) who now owns and flies his own Fokker DR.1 (G-CDXR). I wonder if TVAL are looking for a DR.1 pilot to fill a seat at Classic Fighters....

Bruce Dickinson would be a fascinating guest at a kiwi airshow. An extremely intelligent guy and full of surprise talents outside of singing for Iron Maiden. His TV series Flying Heavy Metal is well worth the watch. It's kinda like Top Gear but with airliners.

I hope Richard Pearse gets a mention I remember a few years back an attempt to get a flying replica of his aeroplane was made not sure if it ever successfully flew?

I hope Richard Pearse gets a mention I remember a few years back an attempt to get a flying replica of his aeroplane was made not sure if it ever successfully flew? There is no such thing as a replica of Pearse's first aeroplane invention. No drawings, photographs or detailed technical information survives upon which such a creation could be based. Pearse himself stated in November 1909 that he had done 'nothing practical' until 1904 and it was another five years before he completed his machine and began trials, all of them unsuccessful. See Chapter Eight of my A Passion For Flight - New Zealand aviation before the Great War: Volume One - Ideas, first flight attempts and the aeronauts 1868-1909 for further details, including a 1909 interview with the man himself that has been overlooked by all previous researchers.
