The latest news from Omaka...
AIRSHOW - AIRSHOW - AIRSHOW
OK, so it's time to reveal a little more about CF'15....
Naturally, we want to be able to present all the things we normally do and then a little more. Our 'AIRBOSS' Steve Petersen is already well ahead of the game with planning of the CAA / Airways etc component as he has been at this all year and has it coming together like a well oiled machine. The girls at the AHC likewise have the bulk of the logistics side underway with support from the many volunteers who make all this happen year after year. Thank you to all of you!
So what can we say about CF'15? Well obviously, some things are yet to be revealed. That said, we can advise that for the WW-II part of the show, there will be a secret weapon - as always - and perhaps not so secret in this instance, however we'll not be revealing the entire plan just yet.
V-1 Flight!
The photos below show a V-1 flying bomb - 'Buzz Bomb' being built at Omaka. This has been going on quietly for months!
The pulse-jet engine pod will go here, but higher.....! (That's Greg at left, Allan in the distance, and Chris at right).
Safe Air folks are always such snappy dressers....! Shane Mathews and Paul Fry (with glasses) have been a huge help with the flying surfaces.
I take my hat off to Props Manager Allan Baker for his Props overview for next year's show including his involvement with this V-1 initiative. Then I have to say a special thanks to Greg Trought who is the main day to day driver of this project along with Chris Brew. These guys have been on this thing nearly full-time for months. That's an amazing commitment. Then there's Allan Knox, a wizard with the 'slip-stick' (old time slang for slide-rule....? OK, slide rule? That was an olden day way of doing complex mathematics before we had calculators in our telephones!). Allan has put a lot of effort and expertise into this. Special thanks also to Safe Air GM Greg Ferguson and his guys from the composite bay at WBN who stepped up to provide assistance with the wing manufacture. This is quite a significant project, but we'll need to let it move further forwards before going into it much further.
CHINA FLIGHT
Although not based in Marlborough these days, Grant 'Muddy' Murdoch's heart will always be here and to this end, he is putting a lot of work into assembling the largest gathering of Nanchangs yet seen in NZ, and possibly, the Southern Hemisphere! He has to date spoken with every CJ-6 owner in the country, and of the seven Nanchangs presently flying, he has secured commitments to have all EIGHT airborne for CF'15 next Easter (yes, you read that correctly!).
The ticket sales for next year's show are already outstripping sales for the 2013 show by quite a margin. The Gold Pass sales will likely have claimed a quarter of the stand before November is over with over 200 tickets already sold. More importantly, the EARLY BIRD special price deal ends on 30th November, so after that, the prices will go up. For this reason we're expecting a rush on tickets within the next few weeks and we're seeing evidence that this has already begun. If these figures are anything to go by, we will have a full-house grandstand, fully booked well before Easter.

MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
As always we are planning a major WW-I aviation and ground theatre event in collusion with the folks from TVAL. A feature of this has always been the 'Magnificent Seven' clutch of Fokker Triplanes, something that is very special to Omaka and has only ever been seen at Omaka since four of the Triplanes function as displays in the Omaka AHC as their 'day job'. Jay McIntyre has been working with the TVAL folks to confirm that the seven Triplanes will fly again next year. Add to this the resident black Triplane that has not long been completed and flown at Omaka and yes, we will have and amazing EIGHT of these iconic machines on the field. We can't confirm that all eight will be seen in the air together but we'll see what can be arranged with TVAL.
PIONEER EVENT
OK we really can't say too much about this except that we always strive to create something unique that hasn’t been seen elsewhere… What we can say is that we're pretty bloody excited about it! We'll be releasing more info once we're game to do so!
AWARDS DINNER
Don't forget the end of show Awards Dinner held in the Gold Pass marquee on the Sunday night. This has grown to become a significant event on the downunder heritage aviation calendar and we suspect we will have to turn people away next time so we're planning to get tickets to this out early this time so involved aviation people can secure their tables before the event sells out to members of the greater airshow attendance. We hope to have these on sale as early as next month.
COMING RIGHT UP......
Yes, there is much more to tell, but that is enough for now. We hope to be sending out some more details (and teasers) shortly!
Cheers for now,
The CF'15 Crew...!
