Two more sleeps..... have the Beenie and gloves cranked out in case the temps plummet. Maybe the Mk.XIV shall arrive to coincide with the Memsahib and I... Remember VERY well a few of us driving to the airfield to have the FW.190 roar low overhead on take-off over our bus. Pity its flight was so short due to that cooling fan problem but the last show made up for that. Bring on the Sav Blanc and Bambi burgers...

Enjoy the weekend one and all... I am salivating already with the thought of Als twin Bristols roaring, another Griffon growling, Gerts Bleriot running and flying... and other nostalgic WWI and WWII planes all together in their themed flights. And photos, sunsets, early morning sunrise pics in the frosty air - Dave I do remember yours from last time of the flight line early morning!! Post it again! There will be very similar scenes I'm sure!! Stuck up here in the volcanic plateau, cool and frustrated!! Perhaps I'll head over to Tauranga and have a browse there

suthg - I plan to arrive, probably with another forumite in tow, at gates-open on Friday and both show days. I'm excited for pre-show and will try get a shot or two.
I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for news of the XIV but I'm pretty sure it will be a show to remember regardless. So many possible highlights, I don't want to list any in fear of missing others.

This will be my 8th Classic Fighters airshow.
I've been to every one since it began in 2001.
A group of us are crossing Cook Strait on the 5:30pm Interislander sailing on Thursday evening (arriving in Picton at about 9:40pm).
We are staying at Picton and driving over to Omaka each day.
I probably won't be there at “gates-open” on Friday (I plan to have a wee bit of a sleep-in, followed by a leisurely breakfast), but I should be there by lunchtime.
Saturday and Sunday, I'll be there at “gates-open” to claim a favoured spot in the back-row of the gold pass grandstand.

I'll be wearing a Wings Over NZ Aviation Forum cap, and will preferably be at the top of one of the stairways in the back row of the grandstand.
Early in the morning before the crowds turn up, I should be easy to find.
Although I won't be doing what we did at Warbirds Over Wanaka last year to claim our favoured spot in the grandstand. We hit the airport about 5:00am, long before any of the airshow staff turned up. We let ourselves into the gold pass carpark, then had to sneak carefully past a couple of security guards on the airport, but made it to the gold pass enclosure without being spotted. When the gates opened, there was the usual mad-dash for the grandstand by people hoping to claim those favoured spots (at the top of the stairways), but we were already there. A couple of the staff looked a bit shocked when they turned up at about 6:15am and we were already in the grandstand, but nobody said anything. However, I've always managed to get the favoured spot in the grandstand at Classic Fighters without resorting to those extreme wee-hours methods.

What hangar at Omaka were the TVAL aircraft assembled in as shown in ErrolC's posting?

Gorgeous photos as always, Gav! If by chance you see this: who's waving from Muddy's Chang?
The middle two photos of the Anson are wonderful.

Not a shabby shot amongst amongst those Mr Conroy but I have to admit a soft spot for the Anson turning on to Nelson's Runway. Brings back some very happy memories of both the Annie and Nelson. Only 11 months till a pint of Tic Toc in the Golden Bear, Mapua Wharf.....

I just heard the distinctive sound of the Corsair departing Hood Aerodrome, so looked out the kitchen window and saw it heading in the direction of the Tararua Ranges.
I presume it will arrive over Omaka Aerodrome in a few minutes time.

The CF Facebook page has posted the show will feature on Seven Sharp on TV1 (7pm) - "Allan Baker and Greg Trought will unveil the legendary V1 Bomb that will take centre stage".
Nice photo of them - Allan holding a radio control unit - with reporter Michael Holland in front of a V1 on its launching ramp.

The Spit project is certainly down to the wire but as we all know if anyone can pull it off the Avspecs team can!
She's looking great.
