Great stuff Gavin! It's really special to see the pre-war machines in the Marlborough twilight, not to mention a happily grease-covered Al!

Our WW1 pilots have been practicing for Classic Fighters 2015. One of these aircraft will look a bit different when you see it at the airshow.

Great to see XIV, but I'm more impressed by the pair of WWI birds - last time I saw the Pup it was in a much brighter green and unairworthy, so I'm very excited to finally see a Pup over Omaka. The Nieuport looks great with it.
In "preparation" for the show I set up MS Flight Simulator X on Sam's PC and flew a "flag-waving" mission over Renwick, Woodbourne and Blenheim before a couple of touch and goes at Omaka. This was in a Flying Flea, so it took about 20min to do the circuit of suburbs!!

Stay strong Tony I can't imagine the things you're going through, but you come across as very positive throughout...which is great to see! Every day I check the Marlborough Express for CF2015 content and today I was not disappointed: a story is online about the two Bleriots! www.stuff.co.nz/marlborough-express/news/67497065/Air-show-focus-on-Bleriot-II-replicasAir show focus on Bleriot II replicas SVEN HERSELMAN A piece of New Zealand aviation history has been brought to life for the Omaka Classic Fighters Air Show, with a replica of the first airplane to fly in the country expected to be on display. The non-working pre-World War I Bleriot II replica will be joined by another working replica of the famous plane which is due to have its first flight at the air show next weekend. Omaka Classic Fighters Air Show display director Dave Lochead said the non-working replica was originally built by the Marlborough Aero Club in the 1960s. "It represents the first aircraft to fly in New Zealand. The replica isn't intended to be flown, but it's had a few accidental flights when the wind picked it up," he said. At some point in its history the plane was taken to Ashburton where it fell into disrepair. The club later re-acquired it and began restoring it in November last year, Lochead said. In contrast, the working replica has been built by Dutch vintage aviation enthusiast Gert van Kruiningen, who lives in Rangiora. "He is back in Holland so we are overseeing the last part of the build for him before it goes for an inspection and is hopefully cleared to fly for the first time [at the air show]," Lochead said. Van Kruiningen's replica has been built with modern aeronautical materials and instruments as well as a "newer" 1928 radian engine. It is a replica of a slightly different Bleriot, which made the first crossing of the English Channel in 1909. A third replica pre-World War I aircraft, a Pither monoplane, was also expected to be at the show, Lochead said. "Seeing them fly will be pretty special. These aeroplanes didn't come much after the Wright brothers. This will be the first time two Bleriots will be on the same airfield together [in Marlborough], and certainly the first time three pre-war aircraft will be together at the air show." My guess is "II" is meant to read "11" That prop - presumably Gert's BXI - is gorgeous! Yes that's right, Gert's BXI Oh and I (Gert) didn't go back to Holland!!! Don't worry, back at Omaka Wednesday before the show !

Weather wise for Omaka: There is a cold front looming for Thursday but for Tuesday and Wednesday it would seem the best days to get the planes down to Omaka from Masterton with light variable winds (southerly on Tuesday, northerly on Wednesday). Winds turn westerly and strong through Cook Strait on Thursday clouding over and rain due with the cold front in the evening. Easter Friday morning may still have a shower of rain but by midday, it is clearing with light southerly winds preceding the oncoming anticyclone and better skies. Saturday, a large anticyclone covers all of New Zealand with light southerly winds and with just a few little high small puffies Perfect for flying!! Sunday is more of the same but the winds turn souwester and more clouds arrive but fine. Winds become strong westerlies (15-20kt?) in Cook Strait. Monday is still fine but with more souwesters and some more cloud, although at 8 days out it is becoming harder to forecast. Another cold front may move through on Tuesday/Wednesday. Good luck and have fun - seems like great weather for this time of year for an airshow!! NB - this is just my opinion after reading data off metvuw.com/forecast/forecast.php?type=rain®ion=nz&noofdays=10

How many to they typically fly over? Also, the ones from Aussie presumably will stay in the containers and get delivered to Omaka.
Note the single-digit overnight temps forecast, and wrap up for the evenings!

A couple of years ago I saw 3 Fokker Triplanes, the Fokker D.VII and Pfalz D.III fly across the Strait in a loose gaggle together with a Cessna mother-hen. If the Aussie adventurers were shipped directly to Omaka then there may only be a couple of tripes to make the trip.

Could anyone specify whether any of the warbirds from Ardmore / Ohakea / Masterton etc will fly over / stop at all in Wellington? Would love to know so I can potentially go and get some shots, seeing as I'm not able to make it this year.

Masterton/Ohakea aircraft would be able to go non-stop and Ardmore aircraft would likely stage via New Plymouth/Whanganui/Foxpine/Paraparaumu depending on endurance/weather. Of course, there might be another reason to drop in (passengers etc).

Gee what are the odds of that <sarcasm font> wonderful to see both engines running on Al's PT cruiser. It's going to be great to hear the roar of radial engines over Easter... In fact you could say I'm looking forward to all the Marlborough sounds. cheers - Teresa
