Short but good piece on One News tonight... It wasn't that good. - It claimed the CT-4E's have been in service for four decades, wrong. - And it claimed the aircraft cost $150 million but their website hosting the same clip claims the aircraft were $150 million each. The Green party guy actually only said, "The general lesson is that the closer you get in a defence relationship with the United States the more likely you are to purchase American military equipment." Any negative connotation in the story was added by the TVNZ news numpties, we don't actually see the greenie saying anything that's either for or against the deal, which is typical of their hopeless journalism.

What I meant about the news article was it reflects the Air Force in a positive manner to the average joe ninety at home who see our Air Force getting some much deserved kit...and any children and kids at high school see that and it might inspire a career in the Air Force...sure the nitty gritty facts were wrong but the average joe at home glosses over that stuff anyway. As for the Greens go read their website on their policies towards our Defence Force..it does not read well. These Texans are only " good news" for our Air Force and the National Govt are making good strides for the entire Defence force which can only be good for the future.

Short but good piece on One News tonight...only issue that ruined it was the idiot Green Party Defence spokesperson questioning the deal with America as too close. Please f..k off Green Party and go live in a jungle and hug some trees you complete weirdos...The day they form part of a Govt will be the day you can marry your pet and end of International relations full stop. Please take note of this group's Forum Rules (Rule 11 applies) and also please read THIS THREAD and take note of forum members' wish to keep the group free of politics.

Raptor, maybe you're happy for the average Joe viewer to be fed inaccurate, unclear statements in their news reports. Call me old fashioned but I'm not. I think they are paid enough taxpayers' dollars to go the (tiny) extra mile to actually find out and present facts rather than fiction as news.
As for the Greens, I'm well aware of their dislike for anything to do with Defence. I was merely pointing out that whilst the reporters were attempting to put a negative slant across in the story from that camp, his actual words used in the clip were far from negative, which again is a misrepresentation on behalf of One News as we did not see the Greens representative actually state anything against the deal - they might as well not have bothered and used the time in the slot to hear more from the Chief of Air Force about the aeroplanes rather than trying to make a story that wasn't there.

Yes Dave, it looks like the editor wanted a negative comment from the Greens to create 'conflict' and 'drama', and that was the best comment for that purpose.

Conflict and drama, - I have to agree. Did they mention the ferry flight and how the aircraft arrived ? I would have thought that the ferry would have been newsworthy in itself, the rest was typical lazy reporting and once again full of errors. They didn't even attempt a crack at Mike Yardley's rank.
The footage was good to see and made the viewing worthwhile. I am just about over watching TV News and expecting to be informed. At least Jim gets most things right and is still entertaining. You would have to pay me more than $5 to watch Campbell Live. I honestly couldn't torture myself for anything less than that.

You're so right Kevin, no attempt was made to mention they flew around the frigging world, and no attempt to talk with the pilots at all. That delivery in itself is a huge achievement.

I followed the trip via Facebook and they posted good pictures. Was a long way in a single engined aircraft that's for sure. The One News piece although flawed in facts was still positive for the Air Force and a breath of fresh air compared to election rubbish, watching poor innocent woman and children getting bombed day and night by Israel, watching an innocent journalist beheaded, race tensions in the States and the daily thuggery of South Auckland shop keepers..I call the Texan piece positive news even if flawed.

I thought handover did not occur until the training period was complete and two more planes arrived out sometime next year?

When they actually belong to us, presumably, which is a few months yet. Which is the right, low risk way to go (we don't want to own them while they are training us how to maintain them!)

Good point, I haven't kept up on the specifics of the contracts. Better negotiation for these than a lot of defence deals in that case;)

I was at Ohakea on Friday but didn't get to see them unfortunately. They are currently keeping them in the new paint shop while No 1 hangar gets refurbished (including under floor heating!). They aren't flying them at the moment Beagle, rather using them to train the Safe Air maintenance team. The Safe guys I spoke to were really positive about the aircraft. They are getting brand new tooling, test equipment, support equipment, etc. as part of the package. So no more "hand-me-down" gear to maintain them! Makes quite a change from the likes of the Macchi purchase where much of the support and test equipment had to be designed and made on base after the aircraft arrived because we couldn't afford to buy it.

Which one is No. 1 Hangar? is that a concrete one or a tin one?

No.1 hangar is a tin one down by where Air movements used to be, and the Oxy bay Training is being carried out on one of the airframes, the other possibly flying from the 29th Sep. Rumour has it there will be 7 aircraft here by Christmas.

yeah thought they would be doing quite a bit of training, but I thought maybe they might have taken one up for a bit of a fly. get it used to the ohakea wind early.
