A bit of a variation on the theme. Lars has given me drawings of the early Cessna 182 series...which after all were essentially just '180s with tricycle gear! So I decided to build one of his 180s as a 182A, so I built 'BRI which as it turns out was the first Cessna 182 registered in NZ. I read an interesting little exert about this aircraft, during 1957 BOP Airlines set up a daily service from Auckland to Tauranga...they flew deliveries for Auckland Star to Tauranga, Whakatane & Opokiki on the return trip! You must have enough examples of the 180/185 to replicate the 70th Anniversary at Omaka by now, Harry!

Lol…nearly, 31 built (though 1 is 182), although I only have 8 of my own 😉

I've been playing around with Cessna 180 and 185 drawings available on the net and realised that turning a 1/48 Cessna 172 into these types in 1/48th scale appears to not be too difficult. Harrysone I'm coming after your total of 31 built Well not really but I'm definitely using your builds as the standard to aim for Paul

Lol funny, my next task is to build an early fast-back 172 for a customer out of a 180!! That will be a challenge! I have an old Arii Cessna 172 injection moulded kit that might be contributing a few bits

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed! I have got my hands on a few of the new injection molded KP Cessna 185 model, unfortunately it is somewhat under-scale in terms of size which is a real shame as I was hoping to cross-kit some bits. The KP model works out at 24ft 9.25 in length and 34ft 6in span, vs real aircraft which is 25ft 9 in and 35ft 10in respectively. Lars vacform models meanwhile work out at 25ft 8.75in and 35ft 9.5 in Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr Untitled by Harry Follas, on Flickr The moldings themselves are ok, however transparencies are too thick (particularly the windshield) and the wheels provided are not the best (too big, too little detail and with huge disc brakes!).

Bugger. Why would a company spend so much making the moulds to get the scale so wrong. You need to switch to 1/48th
