A very intriguing photo, two Walrus flying boats in close formation with a Baffin. Any idea what's going on here? Perhaps a flypast at a war bonds event?

Some P-40 shots Kittyhawks of No. 15 (Fighter) Squadron [or No. 17 (Fighter) Squadron] at Whenuapai. JZ-O is NZ3019. There seems to be a Lodestar in the background, and another Lockheed type NZ3110

Looks like double engine failure (ran out of fuel perhaps?) as all three blades would have been damaged if both were spinning, unless they chopped the mags?? I seem to recall the Ventura had a single button between the mag switches which if pulled or pushed down turned them both off together? Could be wrong there but I think the Dakota was similar??

Did any of you recognise Jerry Yagen next to the P-38? Of course what do you think we are amateurs? (cough cough ahem ahem)

Is that P-40 fuselage ZK-FRE/PXL being restored at Wanaka? I've never seen any photos of it before the 1992 airshow! Did any of you recognise Jerry Yagen next to the P-38? I did, but it seemed so unlikely that it was him to me! I didn't want to seem silly by getting it wrong.

Going back to the Avenger tug photo from page 6, not the background, the buildings at Hobsonville have been camouflaged, so this must be during or just after the war. Wigram's buildings were also painted like this, I don't know if other stations' buildings also got the treatment.

Yes Baz, the DC3 had the same "MASTER" switch for the magnetos. It is push "ON" and pull "OFF" It is thought that the RAAF Historic Flight Ventura accident in November 1996 at RAAF Richmond Base was caused by the failure of this switch which resulted in a double engine failure. I understand the switch had been "snagged" a number of times prior to the accident. I believe most DC3's of my acquaintance, and certainly the one that I fly, have had the switch by-passed as a matter of common sense.

The above photo appeared earlier in the thread. Below are more from the same event. The Red Checkers, a Skyhawk and a Hercules at some airshow. Does anyone know where it is? That's at Nelson Airport, No.2 hangar in the background which is now Air Nelson's engineering hangar, and the radio mast with the hills behind. Must have been in the early 1970's? Edit; Ok, I see someone has already posted that it was Nelson.

I'm told by Graeme McConnell that these Harvards were at Nelson on 27 February 1971 for the Royal New Zealand Aero Club's National Annual Pageant.
