I visited on the opening day and was stunned at what I saw. Attention to detail blew me away. Well done to all involved. I already can't wait for the planned expansion! The Taube is an absolute masterpiece.

Have you got any photos Radialicious?
We'd love to see them if you do. Or anyone else?

Hi Dave, no photos just yet. The displays are of such high quality that the camera doesn't do them justice! It goes without saying that you can't drive through Blenheim without paying this place a visit. I wanna go back!

P.S. The monstrous RE-8 was built in Wellington especially for the AHC. It also is a work of art.

I saw DaveM2's post on flyasss!! ;D The big " G " od of warbird's CW told me about it a while back , and now I am hanging out real bad to get over there one day and see it! ;D Thank's for the fantastic pic's guy's , that place is a real wet warbird nutter's dream! ;D When GMO told me about it, I borrowed......... VON RICHTHOFEN! The Legend Evaluated by Richard Townshend Bickers. ISBN 1-55750-571-3 1996. A top book I think as I have read it twice!! The Red Baron was the first Ace I can ever remember, and I was mad about him from about 5/6 year's old! Think I could even sing some crappy song they had back then about him! and my first model I think was a Fokker Dr1 :oAMAZING PLACE BY THE LOOK'S OF IT! The people who have put this altogether are total LEGEND'S!! (suppose THE Mr PJ has something to do with the place Ciao for now Phil in Oz! ;D

It costs more to get to Blenheim than it does to Sydney from here, so it'll be a while before I get down there. Maybe you can entice a few more with more photos Gavin?
Does the museum have dispaly cases with artifacts, or photo displays, uniforms and all that sort of thing too?
Have you any photos of the exterior too please?

yeah its not cheap when you are that far North, thats why I have decided not the go the the Airforce Airshow in Auckalnd. I had read a few of the others guys were planning a visit. The photos Dave Mac has posted show what has been achieved and photos dont really do the displays that much justice and as has been also pointed out the Taube is simply awesome. I have written an article for Aviation News which is due out next month so keep an eye out for that. My image hoster doesnt seem to be working just now so will post some exterior pictures once it is

We should all keep a close watch on this web site every day to see some bargains that are offered over this year. When one comes up be quick to grab it or it will be gone! flightbookings.airnewzealand.co.nz/vgrabview/I know a number of people now that have picked up some excellent fares since I passed it on to them. I too got a $59 fare back from Christchurch to Auckland. Dave keep an eye on the Hamilton ones as they are closest to you and good luck. Colin

Cheers Colin. Mum told me about this site a few weeks ago. She checks it every morning just in case. She said she's seen some real bargains come up.

Crikey, it looks like hangars! Excellent. I thought these days it was mandatory to get some wierdo flowery designer to build a 'landmark' art gallery style building that is totally unsuitable yet makes a statement. Like the building half falling over at Cosford in the UK, or the one at Duxford that just had its roof blown off in a gust last week.
Maybe that only happens in the UK then as this place looks totally practical and not out of place on an airfield. Excellent.

The building has opening doors at each end for the flyable aircraft to be boutght out, a taxi way is being made to enable the aircraft to taxi over to the airfield on there own and fly. It has a gift shop, cafe and 3500m2 of space and thats a lot of room, hopefully in time you will see extensions built onto it and further hangars are planned next to the AHC for aircraft restorers and owners and some of those hangars might be finished before Classic Fighters. The AHC is state of the art, its just brilliant.

Roll on Easter 2007! ;D
I guess I should be getting my ticket across the Tasman organised sometime soon! ;D
I was thinking of taking the train from Christchurch to Blenheim, but it is almost cheaper to fly, isn't it?

It can be cheap to fly from Christchurch and there are direct flights now between the two places instead of having to go through Wellington everytime. In saying that the train ride is great especially is a few mates and some amber liquid is involved. I think it takes 5 hours by train (I think) and is a 50 minute flight via a 1900D

I did the train trip from Blenheim to Christchurch in April 2004. It's an absolutely fantastic trip along the Kaikoura coast and mountains. It cost me about $29 on a student saver but wasn't much more for standard fare. And I don't think it took as long as five hours, maybe four. Recommended though, they're comfortable carriages and great viewing windows plus an open carriage for filming/photographing/smokers.
