I managed to venture into the museum on the Friday (5th).A very good museum .The settings is similar to the Wigram Airforce museum,ie lighting etc. No real artifacts or glass cases as such but some good and creative scenes depicting the various aicraft. The photos on previous pages give a real good idea. The hightlight for me was the DH.4 . $18 to get in and a family of 3 $36 so some savings eventhough the child was free,I save $2.
I imagine the museum will be there for some time so no real rush. The other exciting visit was to John Smiths place at Mapua. My first sit in the Mossie seat.

One question, does the museum allow the public to take photos?

Looks superb - a big well done to all involved. And many thanks to DaveM2 and Gavin for the photos (couple of warbirds flying over too I note)! AirNZ grabaseat can be good ... $39 one-way between WLG and Blenheim today (for last week of March). Very tempting but won't work for me.

I remember while I was posted at Woodbourne in 1989, there used to be a permanent sign at the Woodbourne Air new Zealand terminal saying you could fly one way across the Strait by F-27 for $19. It wasn't a special price, just standard. Those were the days. It was cheap even then.

I visited the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre last week, and as the photos on the first page of this post suggest, it was very well done. I especially enjoyed the crashed allied aircraft in the tree with German soldiers standing around whilst a dark solitary raven sits on a branch above where the public walk through. I wonder how many of those more discreet items there are that no one notices.
