Regarding parking on the airfield on the Thursday, one Warbirds Over Wanaka many years ago, I turned up about an hour after the gates had opened on the Sunday (other people in my group were doing the mad dash that day to grab the favoured seats in the grandstand) and when I showed the Gold Pass at the entrance to the car park, I was directed down the road and in the main gate of the airport. Somebody obviously stuffed up; however I went and found a spot in the trade exhibitor's carpark and parked there. I was half expecting to find the car had been towed when I returned there at the end of the day (all the other cars in that carpark had exhibitor's stickers), but the car was still where I left it only a couple of hundred metres from the entrance to the gold pass enclosure. Score!!

I still need to find a way to get from Christchurch to Wanaka before the show. Looks like my possible option with Don is now not an option.

What WWII Warbirds are in the line up? I've heard a Polikarpov mentioned, and the Catalina....Mosquito? Fw-190? Spit XIV? FW190 not airworthy yet and Mk XIV not likely as owner tends to only show her off at Omaka. Yes Poli will be there! Catalina confirmed (with Lake event too). Local P51 and Yak 3, Graham Frews Yak 3, (all of these are of course dependent on airworthiness at the time), the Deere Spitfire Mk IX and Avenger, Bill Reids Anson, DC3, Harvards, Yak 52s, Nanchang, Corsair and P40s, Warbirds P51, Dougs Spitfire TR9? theres a T28 confirmed, what have I missed..... Don't think the latest Mosquito will be finished in time although its been a while since an update!

Corsair and P40s... theres a T28 confirmed Are you saying you have seen the Corsair and both P-40's confirmed for the show? And which of the T-28's are you referring to? The two in NZ that are currently non-flying, or the one that is headed this way soon?

T28 was reported by the ODT as returning after a 14 year hiatus, being owned and piloted by the one and only Brett Emeny. Newspapers rarely get things wrong.....

T-28 is listed on the show's website - as is a unspecified P-40. Of course things can change.

I'll probably get to see Christchurch briefly on the way down and also on the way back.....from 25-30,000 feet or so, provided it isn't cloudy.
Only nine weeks from today until I head down to Wanaka for the airshow. That nine weeks will slip by in no time at all.
This will be Warbirds Over Wanaka number fifteen for me. It's hard to believe fifteen airshows and 28 years has slipped by so quickly.
I didn't make it to Warbirds On Parade in 1988, but I was at the first Warbirds Over Wanaka in 1990 (I can still remember the heat & dust that Easter) and have been to every one since.

Will catch a ride to and from the show with Mum and Dad (they live at Frankton) and also have Silver Passes on the Sunday.

That's cheaper than one way from Chch to Wanaka on Intercity! Surely not Dave. There are various bus options these days - try Atomic Shuttle.

I'm not joking Don, Intercity wanted around $380 one way on that route when I first looked at it over a month back. Ridiculous. Now the price has dropped as they seem to have added another bus that day but that means some poor buggers spent that much for 7 and a 1/4 hours on a bus!
Naked Bus still has no listings for that day, I don't know if it is all booked out or just too far ahead in time for them.
I'd never heard of Atomic Bus, it seems to be just a South Island thing. And guess what, they do not go to Wanaka!

Atomic Suttle. That's a name from the distant past.
I travelled from Queenstown to Christchurch with them once....it must have been at least 20 years ago and was most likely after a Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow.
I seem to recall they picked us up at the gate of the apartment we were staying at by Perkins Road along the Frankton Arm.
Interesting to hear they are still going.

Did Dunedin Christchurch and then Christchurch to Picton with them in 2003. The first trip was ordinary, the second was "never again" bad.

Dave add this to your options, if you get to Cromwell (which is the major bus interchange for the area) I'll get you to Wanaka from there.
