Great stuff. It looks like Brendon's project is progressing very well.

21/12/2007 update pictures are now up. Progress looks really good. I imagine that it won't be to long till we see it in one piece! Anyone know what sort of time frame they are looking at?

I've heard 2008, likely after Wanaka. Perhaps a Spitfire duo at Classic Fighters isn't too silly an idea...?
Dave, when Dad and I can organise the time to get down and see him I'll do exactly that!

That project looks a lot further off than flying in 2008, possibly 2010. Don't forget even when it gets all the wings and wheels on etc there's still 2/3rds of the way to go in a restoration - wiring, plumbing, etc.

Hehe - the infamous 90/90 stage: 90% done, 90% left to go!
I see what you mean - I guess the gentleman I was talking to was being a tad optimistic! He said there was NO WAY Wanaka 08 would be a go, as he had told me a few years back, instead "mid 2008" was more realistic. Would be nice, but I'd not want to rush Greg and his team on what already looks to be superb example of Mr Mitchell's masterpiece.
As we all know these things take time. And in the case of Spitfires, as so ably demonstrated by Wal and crew last year, definitely worth the wait!

Not as such - he saw K5054 fly at least once, and died soon after the RAF confirmed an order for 300 Mark Ones.
Not that I know these things....

TV3 " were" going to run a story on the progress of the restoration tonight but it got pulled for timing reasons despite very vociferous protests from the direction of the audio control room. Not that it's any help but I had a look at the story during a bit of downtime tonight and it wasn't too bad. They were saying there's about a year of work left in it before it flies. With a bit of luck it may run later in the week, fingers crossed. Cheers, Stu.

Saw it, nice to see a hopefully 'local' (for me anyway) Spitfire coming to life. Also liked the Typhoons standing in, the reference to the aircraft being an exact 'replica', and the Fielding 'Aerodome' .

All these people restoring Spitfires: why not Corsairs? Not being 100% au fait with Spitfire marks: wasn't the Mk. 9 an improved version of the Mk. 5?

All these people restoring Spitfires: why not Corsairs? Not being 100% au fait with Spitfire marks: wasn't the Mk. 9 an improved version of the Mk. 5? Yes - basically just a more powerful engine. It was suppose to be an interim model to keep up with the Fw-190s before more improved Marks came out but in the end it was one of the more prolific Marks.

Thanks for that, Naki.
Anyway, this restoration certainly looks to be progressing very well, and will make a beautiful companion to Brendan's lovely Harvard.
