Yep, running the latest Flash player...given up now, have wasted 4 hours and got nowhere, I just don't get it, I can watch all other videos and live-streaming elsewhere, but not here. For what it's worth, on my Win7 laptop I am ok with Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.18792, but no go with Firefox or Chrome (both up to date). Great stuff, now where is the cornflakes...... Back to Saturday reality.

That was fun, but nobody was ever going to beat the pace of the superior British engineered Bristol Centaurus in that lovely Sea Fury.

I struggle to understand the Gold - Silver - Bronze classes, and why when you have the potential to win your class of closely matched racers, you get "promoted" to an also-ran in a class where you cant possibly keep up. Must be an American system....

Yes came in fifth just a sliver under 320mph -11mph up on his Bronze Class Heat win. He really put the hammer down! Wish he had the racing engine purring though ;(

I just watched it on my iPhone. Very cool. Very lucky to watch it as I dint know when the race started
Yeah I don't get the promotion thing either. Should they not be classed appropriately in the first place
I just sent Veitchy on Sport a message on what is happening at Reno so hopefully some of this can hit the mainstream media

That was FAST - the lap times for Strega, which won, were about half as long as the ones in Full Noise's race. Gold is going to be the battle of the Superstangs and Voodoo needs to pick up the pace.

British engineered Bristol Centaurus in that lovely Sea Fury. Great to see a Sea Fury racing with her original engine instead of the US engines. Lets hope she does well!

My understanding from the times I went to Reno (15+ years ago now) was that promotion up through the classes was desirable for the pilots and crews. Based on your qualifying times you are seeded into Bronze, Silver or Gold finals. Once the finals begin, the winner of the Bronze final has the option of either being declared the Bronze champion, or promotion up into the Silver final. This gives them another go around the pylons, but the main reason most accept is that last place in the Silver final gets more prize money than first place in the Bronze final. So even if you pull up immediately after starting it is worth taking the promotion. The winner of the Silver final has the option of being declared the Silver champion, or promotion into the Gold final. Again, prize money for last place in Gold is better than the prize money for being the Silver champ, and you get more bragging rights and another go around the pylons.

I have always wondered why the Reno races are not treated like other top international motorsports events and covered by proper TV sports networks with cameras all around the track and proper coverage, interviews, background coverage etc., like the Red Bull Air Races or Formula One Grand Prix. It seems it's really only the aviation fans who follow it and only a proportion of them, but surely there is a really marketable wide appeal that a massive international audience would surely tap into of ESPN or similar networks picked up the coverage. I mean there is speed, awesome loud noise, history, great personalities, international teams competing, fantastic aeroplanes, its all there. The live coverage on the internet is adequate but only just. Do the organisers not want it to get more widely seen?

Here's the confirmed results for Unlimited Heat 2B: 2017 Heat 2B official by Zac Yates, on Flickr I have always wondered why the Reno races are not treated like other top international motorsports events and covered by proper TV sports networks... Unfortunately I think it's due to the event being so niche. There's mention of ESPN coverage in older books but I think that was only hour-long specials or similar one-off programmes broadcast after the event. I'm not sure about now (the online store goes offline during the races) but there were DVDs available a decade ago (and videos before that), like there are with Omaka, Wanaka and Flying Legends, that have the interviews and background as well as race highlights with cameras around the course. So fans can get a fix at least, casual folk would need to be exposed to it or hunt it down. You would think the organisers would jump at any opportunity for publicity as they were actually asking for public donations for the prize money this year. Maybe none of the US networks were interested?

And yet networks page big money to cover the America's Cup which is as pointless as watching paint dry.

They can consider themselves lucky to a degree since the tragedy of 2011. They got huge publicity then and there was a concerted call, amplified through the media and at certain regulatory levels, to ban the races altogether.
