None as major as the Neptune conversion, few re-paints with minor mods.

Finally finished the Waco to Gladiator conversion I've been working on, haven’t
flown this yet waiting for the right place and day, wasn’t going to finish her until
I’d flown but got the urge and here she is in all her glory. Does anyone else get
those pre maiden gitters, spent all this time making the thing now too scared to
commit her to the air in case I destroy the little beauty!


Weathered with artists pastels, didn’t go too crazy mainly white so she looks
like she has been bleached in the Egyptian desert sun


Went a bit over the top with additions and details, added flaps both top and bottom
and a link off the rudder so the pilot turns.


No not a mistake with the two shades of brown the early RAF aeroplanes has a
three colour camouflage.


Modded the cowl making it longer so getting to the battery is easier.


My chubbie hand just to give an idea of size, now just got to get some guts to
commit the little beast to aviation!


Mods include shortening the top wing, moving the undercart, re shaping the cowl,
adding pilot, flaps, guns, exhaust and scale details, paint, decals and weathering.

Latest couple of winter projects from the palm island plane factory, first up a couple of ANZACs.
Scored a bit of a mini mother load of ultra micros, Kittyhawk, Spitfire and Mustang. These planes
run on very small 3.7volt batteries with a small geared motor, not very powerful but very light so
they fly okay.

In stock form these the little P40 is a short tailed version add 1cm of foam to the rear of the fusy,
moved the fin back and lengthened the rudder control link.


Have done this mod to a few, removable top deck allows access to the electronics and servos
for maintenance and better access to get the centre of gravity correct.

Spitfire simple mod, doing her as a RAAF Mk VIII with the pointed fin.


Been fortunate to get up close and personal to the real one one a few times, even sat in her recently!


While I'm not such a fan of P40s wearing sharks teeth don't mind them on a Spitfire, teeth and letters hand painted.

Thanks Dave always been fond of those large roundal with bars if that's what they are
called? Would love to see a real one in these markings one day, hope that's a possibility?

RAAF Mk VIII Spitfire done.
Mods include paint and decals, fin from Mk IX to Mk VIII and made the top front
of the fusy removable.




Flight soon hopefully.


P40n Kittyhawk done.


This one getting closer, have heard it said Italians painted their warbirds like pizzas.

Paint, decals and weathering done, just need that howling Sou'wester to back
off so she can fly.

This one was so much fun and turned out way better than I first imagined, the
mods worked out so well, the paint job and decals really made her I think.

Have painted as a bit of a tribute to the late Guido Zucolli who had a Fiat
G59 in Australia for many years, Guido was one of the founding fathers in
the early days of Warbird aviation in the country, thanks Guido.


The side on profile really shows off her looks, that long nose and pointy tail
really gives her the sleek look of an Italian stallion! Those mustang legs will
go as she will be a hand launch/belly lander, warbirds with gear hanging out,
no no?


When I first started thinking about this model I discovered there where three
Italian WWII fighters which all looked very similar. The Fiat G55 Centauro,
Macchi 202 Folgore and the Reggiane Re 2005 Sagittario.

They are very similar in looks and had the same power plant I wonder if the
manufactures got together. The Macchi is almost the same as the Fiat and
the only major difference with the Reggiane is her tail? Be interested to hear
if anyone out there knows a bit more about this?

Converting a Mitchell to Manchester, this one a bit special for me, my wife's great uncle
died over Germany as an air gunner in a Manchester. Not too popular with their crew,
while reading up on them found an interesting quote, "there are two types of Manchester
pilots, those who have had and engine failure and those who are about to!"


Bit more progress, fins fitted and hooked up also has steerable tail wheel. Bit of recycling
with this one, used the tail cone turret for the upper turret, stage shaped thing! Upper turret
from Mitchel as the bomb aimers dome. The canopy is the original for the front half and the
top section of the nose from the Mitchel as the rear half, not 100% scale but close enough.
Will fly her soon to get her trimmed, a few more scale details then slap on some paint.
No flying today pissing down with a few claps of thunder out in the Tasman at present!


Often have two on the go, also converting a Wildcat to a CAC Boomerang, have flown
her as she appears, was a little nervous as I have moved the wing and added diahedral.
Flew better than expected just a little aileron trim and she was fine.

Been plodding along with my Mitchell to Manchester conversion, black undersides paint
going on means we are getting closer, still have to do some detail, the three turret guns,
exhausts, topsides camo and decals.


Bit of paint on the Mitchell to Manchester, canopy and gun turrets painted also
having to paint the fuselage roundels as don’t have one with yellow surrounds
in my spares box.

Also getting a bit done with the Wildcat to Boomerang, undercoat on, that wing root fairing
was a job and half, cockpit detail some top coats and decals.




Wildcat to Boomerang got some paint, south west pacific scheme for her, a machine that
served with 4 Sqn RAAF late 1944.

Michell to Manchester very close now, needs squadron codes, she’s ready to
fly may happen this afternoon.



Sanded down the cowls to create the taped look, plastic tubes for exhausts
then weathered using artists pastels. The canopy was made from the Mitchells
original front canopy and the top of the bomb aimers canopy, 1mm strips for
the framing, perspex painted gloss black then dry brushed silver. The unusual
shaped middle upper was made from the Mitchells rear gun position, very close
in shape after a bit of work.

Wildcat to CAC Boomerang conversion close just pilot to be painted and fitted.


Decals are 1/24th scale which are a little small but wasn’t going to paint them!


Here she is with my Wildcat, fair bit of work to get her from a Wildcat to a
Boomerang, the fuselage is a little long, the wing span too big and the cowl
not fat enough but in the air close enough, stand off scale!


Now to get some air under her wings.
