Great photos everyone, glad the weather cooperated for yesterday at least, it would have been rotten luck for it to be totally cancelled two events running.

Pete and Pete Pattinson, many thanks for your kind words . Looking out of my Copthorne window right now and it is raining again. Been showers all morning and it was the right call to cancel today, Very hard for me to advise the crowd about the B.52 paraphrasing the message from the Committee and the US Ambassador . Its the second time I have had to do that the first being the Vulcan at Old Sarum on what was to become its last ever flight. The guys and gals at Wings were gutted at the news as were the US reps who had attended. The first B.52 in NZ if even for a short glimpse was much anticipated and the disappointment within the show crew and Committee was palpable let alone with the guests who had travelled a very long way to be there. I for one was really looking forward to seeing that tell-tale black smudge off to the east but it was not to be.
For me the highlights were the TVAL segments. They were superb. I loved the way that the sequences were assembled with everything in front of the crowd and not off on some remote "hold". The DH.4 was brilliant and the multiples of types was just sensational. Sights not to be seen anywhere else in the world and all praise to TVAL volunteers, ground crew and pilots and to the founder and inspiration. Nick and James were great on the commentary. John L did a fantastic job with the moving feast that was the programme and of course no-one ever sees the literal midnight oil burned to create a display programme with ten starring aircraft missing and the known threats of weather to move display slots so that the crowd could see the best when the worst weather was expected.......Merv, Paula and Horse did a magnificent job controlling and as usual Sqn Ldr Kate Bint did a fantastic job with the RNZAF/RNZN who in turn performed brilliantly....and Full Marks to the Defence Force for filling the gap left by the B.52 with that spirited display in the Orion. Just goes to show how good they are to rapid reaction.
Bucketing down outside now.
Despite the fact that it was cancelled today the entire crew were upbeat and talking about the next one so watch this space.

They sent a pair of F-16s and required support happily enough to Wanaka. I doubt that anyone with nouse in the US Pacific-based armed forces or what's left of the State Department think having the NZ public impressed by power projection has become less useful in the meantime.

Love the name for the German Shepherd! So glad that the whole show wasn't a washout. Shame about the B52 but these things happen.

Thanks Errol for the kind feedback. It was my first time commentating at an airshow. Ando was a great steadying influence

Here is the commentators' booth behind the Gold seating, with Ando getting ready for the next segment. His preparation is unbelievably thorough, all the way from supporting sponsors to procedures for major incidents.

Ando, it was great to have you in our ears yesterday! I really appreciated your knowledge and delivery, and it was very very cool to hear Jamo on too - he and Nic were a great team. It did seem odd to me that for so much of the show you were on your own? And I agree Ando about Dakota, she was such a good pup! My first time seeing a dog fastrope out of a helicopter! That was a very entertaining scenario from start to finish. filling the gap left by the B.52 with that spirited display in the Orion. As very, very excited as I was for the B-52, that missed approach by the P-3 was truly spectacular! The Southern Lights scale replica team was a neat addition. I hope the team sticks to it and flies more shows as it was a great showcase for the machines, and neat to see them together. The Yak team was brilliant. In the past I've taken them for granted but yesterday I really watched and enjoyed their display. Also, did anyone notice there were eleven Yak aircraft on the field? Zac, you will have been pleased that there was a real Fletcher on display. My last walkabout to the flightline was around 12pm and CBA and the loader were parked up next to the Cat. I hope you're not telling me CBA wasn't the only one there and I missed a piston machine!!! I did see the Agricola though...

It has had many transplants since then but it's still a Fletcher. R

From my discussions with the Special Ops guy, apparently as soon as Dakota sees her muzzle she knows that she is going in a helicopter and she is literally beside herself as she loves it. Did anyone else see as she and her handler were rapelling from the chopper her tail was wagging 20 to the dozen?
