Guys, Here at Avalon and saw the B.52 that "did not make it". Yesterday another flew all the way from Guam for a single flypast and back to Guam. Did the flypast but this morning was sitting on the southern taxiway with a problem.......and on its landing also took out 4 runway lights......."The Curse of the BUFF"......

And.....to add insult to injury.....I am sure that most have seen the engine loss of the C.17 when it injested a bird. So that makes it two B.52s, one C.17 and one KC.135 all damaged and having a connection to Avalon. Having spoken to some of the crew members, theye were really disappointed that they did not start Wings as they were all looking forward to being the first B.52 crew and aircraft to 'visit' NZ if only for a quick flypast.

Anybody Know why? Some years the Venom can land at Masterton and some years it can't. The last time I was there it had to operated from Paraparaumu. This year there are photos of it on the runway. I am sure I have seen it parked at the airshow even further back.

ZK-VNM/3 was parked overnight Friday/Saturday around by the ex-airline terminal at Masterton, close by the threshold for RW24. So it certainly landed/took-off from the field.

Perhaps it does not land if there is not overnight hangarage available?

Perhaps it does not land if there is not overnight hangarage available? Perhaps not enough wind on the nose forecast for take off?

Thanks! Friday afternoon, just after the TVAL display, mindful of the uncertain forecast, I said to the small group of avgeeks I had watched it with "This trip has been worth it". This knowing that the photos from Friday would likely be only ok (poor lighting, boring grey clag background) - the experience of seeing the performance that TVAL had put together was well worth the moderate level of $$ and time spent.

The WWI segments were the best TVAL displays I have ever seen, they really were more dynamic with some terrific scenarios going on. Superb to see three Albatros and three SE5's together in the air. Plus the DH4 display was incredible, Scott really threw it around! I never expected that. Ad quite cool to see the poor little BE2's being chased by the Albatros, quite sobering to think about the reality of that. Amazing job by TVAL all round, it was the highlight of the show for me.

Awesome photos, Errol! TPlus the DH4 display was incredible, Scott really threw it around! I never expected that. I'd been wanting to see a DH.4 fly for a long time, and got impatient once this example arrived. That display did not disappoint - it was wonderful. Bravo Scott, and thank you! Hear hear. The TVAL displays made the trip worth it for me, too.

Any chance of the dates for 2021 being announced soon? Would help people from overseas having to cancel 2020 travel to Wanaka if they can move flights to a time less than a year away.
