A second Kato GL locomotive is this weekend's project. This one will be 4 ton model which is longer than the 3 ton. I will probably then readdress the build quality of the first locomotive which has a few details to sort out. The bent bracket on the new loco has already been straightened. A third motor bogie was also ordered from Switzerland today. Wow the model and postage has shot up since I purchased the first two from England. I'm glad I don't 96 Kato locomotives like the Rabaul base had during the war.

Last nights progress. Heck I might even start an aircraft next as I'm still awaiting new resin Ford GTB bomb service model from Poland.

I thought it was about time to start sorting out the tenants of the control tower so by opening up a side wall I have been able to insert a large radio on a table and a wall map of the Solomon Islands. In addition to some figures I hope to add a few Kiwi and American style steel helmets hanging up, a rack with a few rifles in case of ground attack, a signal light, binos and log book on a table. While on the roof a VHF antenna, an HF wire stretching away to a tree or something suitable, wind sock and the ball off the mast (did we ever agree what its purpose was - active runway wind direction?). Finally the box on the side which I assume houses a small generator to provide electrical power to the control tower. Yes there will be seperate officers and enlisted mens boggers down on the ground. What have I forgotten?

Two bomb trailers almost assembled, six more to go. Not the flashest mounding but being plastic much easier to work with than the resin versions.

Is that map 1/48 scale? Amazing stuff.

Yes its 1/48th. The huge radio, while it is 1/48th scale, has been replaced with something more suited to a control tower along with an operator and a US uniformed officer. I'm still looking for a Kiwi duty officer.

Neat. Must get back to the layout but to many distractions.
