pity about the paintwork... 3 years in refit and it looks terrible! You'd have thought they'd give it a repaint before it was recommissioned.

But to be fair HDML Kuparu second refit for an 80 year old wooden boat is looking good and puts this grey speckled tub to shame...

From the NZDF Alerts page on Facebook:
Devonport Alert In honour of the return of frigate HMNZS Te Kaha from Canada after nearly three years away, a formal gun salute will fire at Devonport Naval Base at approximately 10am on Sunday 20 December. The ship will return the salute as it approaches the base.
Our Seasprite helicopter will be operating from the Ngataringa Sports Complex, Devonport, between 8am and 10am, in support of Te Kaha's return.

One thing is that the CIWS gun has disappeared. It was not there when she came back from Canada and is still not on the vessel. Does anyone know if the new missile system has replaced it or is it to be added at some later date?

I know there is a global shortage of paint tints due to COVID shutdowns damaging supply chains but grey is just a mix of black and white.

Does anyone know if the new missile system has replaced it or is it to be added at some later date? Yes I'm very suspicious of the fact that nothing has been said at official level nor, surprisingly, related chatter on various forum. The CIWS was included in artist impressions of the final 'look' but that's no guarantee. If they are no longer to be fitted the ANZACs will lose a potent anti-FIAC capability (like the mini-typhoon provides above the bridge wings)...let alone the last ditch anti-missile capability it offers. They could at least plonk one on Aotearoa.

Or just perhaps it has been left behind to be utilised for systems integration testing on board HMNZS TE Mana and will be returned onboard the same?
Probably no need to to go down the conspiracy theory track just yet...

I see that TEK and Aotearoa are to join the UK task force later this year when transiting the South China Sea and for exercises off the Malaysian coast with a P3 also attending. I guess one of the ships at least will have a CIWS system fitted by then given the very real potential for confrontation.

Ah I didn't realise that TEM left without her CIWS, that does then suggest TEK's could be used for TEM trials... altho TEK trial images didn't show one and it is a critical factor in top-weight trials. No excuse not to trial fit TEM's CIWS that's still here onto Aotearoa then.

I maybe mistaken but I don't think Te Kaha had one either when it left.
