Thanks Dave.
Are there any shows/open days scheduled at Ardmore before then?

It's nice to see our dear late friend Alan Peart DFC in the back of the Spitfire on the poster. And it's also nice to think that he had that flight thanks to the kindness of people on thus forum.

Yak 3 "Full Noise" will be participating, along with its newly minted Spitfire pilot. They are taking bookings for those looking to get an adventure flight in "Full Noise" whilst they are up at Ardmore for this event.
(and b----r the cheap deals currently on offer on AirNZ flights from Sydney to Auckland don't kick in until after this event is held......grumble, grumble, grumble.....)

Given the crappy weather right now and the forecast for the weekend, an email just circulated by Ardmore Airport states the following: Good afternoon NZ Warbirds are planning to have their D-Day 75 Commemoration Open Day at Ardmore Airport on Sunday 2nd June (Event reserve weather day Monday 3rd June), a decision will be made on Saturday at 12.00 on the 1st June regarding any postponement or cancellation, please refer to the following link: nzwarbirds.org.nz/news-and-events.html

Thanks for the update Dave. According to the forecast the weather seems to be holding out for Sunday so here's hoping it isn't like last year.

The overnight showers finished early, 1/8 cloud or less since dawn. Texan on flightline, Seasprite just arriving. Haven't seen the Yak-3, but at least one visiting Yak-52.

Full Noise confirmed unable to make the show due to the weather. Looks like a decent day overall though so hopefully it's a good show.

Turned out to be great day for flying. The visiting Yak-52 might have been me if it was a single aircraft. A pair of ‘52s from Tauranga were also in attendance. The wind was a bit chilly but the sun shone through most of the day. Crowd numbers looked a bit low to start with, but by lunchtime the place was heaving.

I had just got into position Visiting Yak-52 by Errol Cavit, on Flickr Busy Arrivials by Errol Cavit, on Flickr Drying Out by Errol Cavit, on Flickr Yes, rather chilly, especially waiting for the first display - coffee much appreciated. Cracker Day!

That was me and JP, my back-seater, just arriving in TYS. The Cessna and Piper in the background of the Seasprite photo were a couple of planes from Waikato Aviation (Aero Club) full of Young Eagles. We also had a Piper Cub from Te Kowhai in the fleet coming in from beyond the southern border of Jafastan. I thought there would be more visiting aircraft, but I guess a lot were put off by the previous day's weather.

Great shots Errol. Gutted I did not make it up this time but I'd not have wanted to be i the cold wind with the damned cold I have right now.
I love that shot of all the aircraft approaching behind the Seasprite, that's cool!

Haha, if you look closely two of those aircraft in the far distance are of the "Flapping" variety...
