Nice clean partial glass cockpit in the KFC 5800, can see the lineage though Nice long freight interior too. I see Kelowna FC say that it can be made to accommodate 78 pax, that would put it in similar category as an ATR 72. Not sure if any 5800 has been produced as a passenger transport though.

No none, I once saw an illustration mocked up in a German (I think) airline's colours, somewhere on the internet but that was as far as it went.

ZK-CIE in plain white with no titles, NZCI, 17/2/15. Not a great photo but captures the general bleariness of the scene in light drizzle at close to midnight after a very stressful day. I suspect CIE was brought in on this occasion because CIB went U/S. ZK-CIB, NZCI, 20/2/15. Note the missing logo on the fin. A windowfull of Allison 501. ZK-CIB, 20/2/15

Thank you harrysone for posting the histories and pictures of the Convair 580. The Convair 580 is one of my favourite aircraft. I do have four pictures of ZK-KFH at Palmerston North taken in September 2016. Not sure if you would like a picture to post on here.

I'll post some more photos of "KFC-5800" ZK-KFS later today, there are some good ones that Mike has that demonstrate the size difference over the standard CV-580 and different engines/prop combinations. Apparently both 5800 aircraft that were converted have worn the rego C-FKFS over time, this makes the aircraft histories confusing to track, 'KFS is now C-GKFS. Here is a bit of a summary of the Kelowna Flightcraft CV-5800 program, apparently only two airframes were ever produced. www.ruudleeuw.com/cv5800.htmKelowna are the Type Certificate Holder for all of the Convair Prop-liners www.kfaero.ca/maintenance-and-engineering/convair/modification

I was just in the drawing office at Kelowna Flightcraft yesterday. Good grief there are a lot of drawings for the Convair series!! All original, nicely rolled up and labelled. And of course they've all been digitised too.

ZK-CIF CV-580: MSN 381, Convair 440 delivered to Sabena as OO-SCT in December 1956. Converted to CV-580 in September 1968. Registered ZK-CIF to Air Chathams September 2005. Retired from service with Air Chathams earlier in 2019, in storage. Passenger only aircraft, CIE & CIF were both purchased from Alaska based Era Aviation with prospect of services in the Pacific. Both CIE and CIF were operated for periods with Peau Vavau and Chathams Pacific on Tongan and Pacific routes. Both have also provided backup for the Chatham Island Service. CIF was grounded earlier in 2019 and appears to be undergoing process of parts reclamation.ZK-CIF was on TradeMe for a while and made the news as it was being advertised as a potential “tiny house”. It has been purchased by Whanganui man James Barron, will be moved to the seaside suburb of Castlecliff and turned into accommodation. It was the front page of today’s Whanganui Chronicle newspaper but I won’t link to their site as the story is behind a paywall. Fortunately the 3rd Level blog has the story in full: 3rdlevelnz.blogspot.com/2019/09/airliner-to-accommodation.htmlThe aircraft has its own (under construction) webpage: www.castlecliff.nz/zkcifand Facebook page: m.facebook.com/ZK-cif-aka-The-Spirit-of-Whanganui-or-Te-Wairua-o-Whanganui-122816912441775/The news story mentions she will be located near Karaka Street. As I live on Karaka Street this is very exciting.

ZK-KFH: Convair 580, constructed as CV 340 January 1953 for United Airlines (c/n 42) as N73122. Converted to CV 580 in 1967. Converted to freighter by Kelowna Flightcraft 1993. Registered in NZ as ZK-KFH in March 1997 to Airfreight NZ/Fieldair Ltd. On 20th August 2016, Airfreight NZ ceased to operate, ZK-KFH was sold to Air Chatham's Ltd. It was used for a period as a pure freighter during 2017-2018, it has subsequently been subject of parts reclamation by Air Chatham's. Here is 'KFH in another life: www.aerialvisuals.ca/Airframe/Gallery/0/81/0000081443.jpg with United Airlines The final disposal of ZK-KFH www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12242978KFH_2 by Harry Follas, on Flickr KFH: January 2008 The Facebook page for ZK-CIF reports that Air Chathams hasn't been able to dispose of ZK-KFH and that "just after (CIF) left the hangar(sic) on my roadtrip Thursday she entered to complete being scrapped".

I saw the center section of KFH, sans outer wings and rear fuse still sitting on its gear t the end of '23 a couple of weeks ago...the thought did occur to me that she was getting the chop!
