The family ( and Curtiss & I ) are under no obligation to have any social media presence "Social media - the toilet of the internet." - Lady Gaga As they say, all good things come to those who wait.

The family ( and Curtiss & I ) are under no obligation to have any social media presence "Social media - the toilet of the internet." - Lady Gaga As they say, all good things come to those who wait. And the social media toilet has been rife today, I don't normally comment on FB WIX page but some of the things being said needed correcting! I too never actually got to see the aircraft in person, even though I was often in the area, so when official pics/info are released it is greatly appreciated. Great work to all those involved to see these machines having some work done so they are around a lot longer for people to comment on......

And the quick release wings option....although I understand the refitting process is a tad slow! Interesting seeing the quite different positions of the US and RNZAF roundels. I presume our roundel had a particular position per ministry orders? Whereas most I've seen they used the US position and just painted over the top.

Wow, very cool! Thanks for the update. I see she has the late style wheels 😁 And also the air-conditioned cockpit mod., more suitable for operations in the tropics.

If this is an indication of the state of the other aircraft (great considering their age) we are going to see some amazing restorations.

It would be nice if some could be left as close to untouched as possible

The two sets of roundels appear to be the original RAF and RNZAF.

Fan-bloody-tastic!! It's like going back in time to Rukuhia. I echo the above sentiments "Thank you" to the bereaved extended Smith family for graciously sharing these exquisite gems!

I thought I saw a hint of star but I was fooled by the white(?) codes me thinks. She looks to have a reasonable amount still inside like radio rack, control stick (minus the grip) throttle quadrant, trim selectors, rudder pedals. Such a thrill to see this bit of RNZAF history virtually untouched for what 60 plus years? And not one P40 but two!

This thread is too much, as with the P40N pictures I find myself coming back and looking over these amazing images. In the most recent batch of images of the P40E am I correct in seeing RAF roundels under and slightly forward of the RNZAF roundel?

Yes , the forward roundels appear to be the original RAF markings along with the EV serial.

First up, thanks for the updated pics of 3043! Quite a fascinating study of many areas including paint finishes etc I must go through my refs and see if I can find a photo of her in service.
I was looking at these photo's and thought I would never see the day we could be so privaleged to study these airframes in detail. It would be good to get some people like Barf and David Duxbury to do a study of the paints and matches etc one day.
Thanks again, much appreciated update!
Cheers Anthony
