Guys, this thread is for the C-130J, not the P-8.

The countdown begins! First C-130H has been retired by the RNZAF due to maintenance requirements taking up to a year long. C-130J-30 are supposed to begin assembly at Lockheed Martin in March so exciting times for the RNZAF again.

Well there is the first C-130J-30 tracking along the production line... and then Little had to go and say the rest of his tweet which we all know is BS... but we will leave that part of his tweet for the proper thread... lol (mutter mutter muter curse swear @ labour ;-) )

It will be good to have an aircraft that can reliably fly to the ice without breaking down... And as for chicken Little's BS - LMFAO!!!

See on the RNZAF FB page that farewell flight for NZ7004 will take place on Monday (27 November) ...hope like hell 40 Sqn aren't called on for anything urgent for the next 2 years (until all 5 C130J-30 are here) ...so NZ's total transport fleet is now a paltry 5 old-timers! Guess the Govt expects the RAAF to just drop what they're doing & help!

Read earlier that these were getting some extra sensors, the hump on the roof is interesting takes me back to the first Skyhawks, what will go in there?

AIUI the 'hump' is related to the wide bandwidth, high speed satellite communications system they are getting, whilst I do know the 'extra sensors' is primarily a Westcam electro-optical/infra-red camera very similar to what the P3-K2 had & the P-8A has (mounted under the nose just forward of the front landing gear. www.beehive.govt.nz/sites/default/files/2020-06/C-130J%20Factsheet.pdf

Would imagine it is out there somewhere, pretty sure the J models came with extra internal fuel tanks as standard compared to earlier models. Interested to hear what the effective range is for these with the extra tanks?
Thank you.......

Is it just me, or does the nose cone seem to be a lot bigger on these aircraft from the norm? Is it to allow for the MX-20 turret or for a different radar?
