Announcement just made by Temora Aviation Museum regarding March 21 Aircraft Showcase.
COVID-19 UPDATE
The Museum has been receiving calls regarding the March 21 Showcase considering the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation.
Unfortunately due to recommendations from the Australian Government advising against non-essential organised gatherings of 500 or more people from Monday 16th March, we regret to inform you that the March 21 Showcase has been cancelled.
Oh well, there goes my planned first Australian flying day for the year. Will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next couple of months, especially events planned over April including Easter and ANZAC Day, then for Wings Over Illawarra in early May. Canberra Airport Open Day which was planned for early April which would have included a number of visiting aircraft from HARS including the airworthy Tracker also expected to be cancelled/postponed.
Looks like those who got to Tyabb may have been the last to see an airshow in Australian skies for the next few months or more.
UPDATE: Wings Over Illawarra 2020 organisors have just announced that given the developments today regarding COVID-19 and large public gatherings that they are currently considering option for WOI2020 to be postponed and will provide updates as soon as a decision has been made.

Hmmm. Has anyone heard if there may be a similar impact on Warbirds Over Wanaka 2020?

Wanaka is still on.
They have posted an update on their website:
Warbirds over Wanaka › 2020 Airshow › COVID--19
Warbirds Over Wanaka is monitoring the situation in regards to the COVID-19 virus on a daily basis.
The current intention is that the Airshow is very much going ahead as planned at Easter.
Warbirds General Manager, Ed Taylor, says organisers are keeping in touch with Ministry of Health best practice around events and will be implementing a number of measures around issues such as hand sanitising, aimed at helping to keep our visitors safe.
Ed notes one advantage of Warbirds is that it is an open air event held over a very large airfield space.
There will be no refunds of tickets because of the virus outbreak, unless the organisers are forced by the New Zealand Government to cancel the event.
See you soon.

Early days with nearly a month to go so hopefully it doesn't get worse in New Zealand. If it does they may use similar standards like gatherings limited to 500 people which would effect the show.

Cameron and I were planning a day trip or maybe 2 days and meeting up with a friend from the U.S who’s crewing on the Catalina. Having said that I don’t want to get it or risk passing it onto my parents who have respiratory issues and elderly

If these restrictions are still in place in a fortnight then it will not only affect all of the international visitors to the event, but also the RAAF and USAF participants. Jurgis Kairys is scheduled to fly the Polikarpov, and he may have problems as well.
In addition the Gov't will announce next week new measures for large mass events. That is probably going to affect WOW, and not in a good way.

The USAF has stopped "all outreach activities and support to community events through May 15. This includes, but is not limited to, on-base and civilian sponsored air shows..."

RAAF Museum Point Cook has just announced that they will be closed to the public until further notice, as a result of public safety measures for COVID-19. That also means cancellation of their flying days until after the Museum re-opens, whenever. I suspect given this announcement, RAAF will be reconsidering their particpation at all public events, and in light of Australian Government recommendations for limitation on all unnecessary overseas travel, may see them withdraw from WOW2020.

Australia have put in place the same restrictions on inbound travellers as New Zealand - self isolate for 14 days after arrival.
The new rules are in place for 30 days.
Plan accordingly.

Its looking like many shows here - and now Wanaka - shall be cancelled or postponed. I know that Paul bennet is madly trying to see what he can do towards the shows in the next few months. Postponing according to him (direct conversation) is what he is trying to do. Many of the shows have a major public beneficiary and it is hoped that they can go ahead later to ensure that assistance is still forthsoming.Apart from Wanaka its looking like a few very major overseas shows may be cancelled as well. Just amazing how things can change so rapidly in a few days !

Not sure how you go about a setting a new date when we don't know how long COVID is with us..but best of British to them.. www.wingsoverillawarra.com.au/story/wings-over-illawarra-2020-postponedWINGS OVER ILLAWARRA 2020 POSTPONED In the interests of Public Health and the directive of the Federal Government Wings Over Illawarra 2020 is being postponed. In an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19 the Federal Government has made the decision to ban non-essential gatherings of more then 500 people. At this stage we have no idea on how long this ban will be in effect, and considering the risk to public health, along with the potential of travel bans being introduced, we feel it is in the best interests of the public and the future of the event to postpone the event until later in the year. We would like to emphasize that we are postponing the event and not cancelling it. We have been in discussions with all our stakeholders over the weekend in an attempt to lock in a suitable date as soon as possible, and as you can imagine there are a number of parties that need to be consulted before dates can be released. We anticipate being in a position to announce the new dates within a couple of days, so please bear with us while we finalise all the details.

Wings Over Illawarra 2020 organisers have just posted up their proposed new dates for the airshow, being 7 & 8 November 2020. So if things are better in the back end of the year, it will be a very busy airshow season for us locally over the period September thru November.
A number of other flying days, fly ins and airshows scheduled between now and the end of May have been cancelled or postponed, events scheduled for June are still under review awaiting how events unfold and Government guidance is provided, and anything from July onwards are generally saying that they are going ahead at this stage unless circumstances change between now and then.

Just In:
Warbirds Downunder 2020 has been postponed...
The Temora Aviation Museum have advised that Warbirds Downunder 2020 on Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 October 2020 has been postponed and will now be taking place in the first quarter of 2021, with dates to be confirmed.
A message from the event organisers:
The Temora Aviation Museum management team have been closely monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation and its potential effects on Warbirds Downunder 2020. After extensive consultation and review, it has become clear that the impacts of COVID-19 would pose undesirable risks to the event, our staff, volunteers, crew and visitors.
Given that announcement, I am wondering how long it will be before we hear a similar postponement for Wings Over Illawarra in mid-November? Given the current situation down in Victoria, as well as the degree of physical distancing restrictions combined with all the health and safety requirements being put in place by Government for large scale public mass gathering events, it is going to make it very hard for the airshow organisors to put on an event that they can balance both crowd size with profitability.
I hope they don't plan dates that clash with my plans for Classic Fighters 2021 (if it goes ahead as planned and the Trans-Tasman travel bubble does open up.)

....and a further update from Temora Aviation Museum just in.....
In lieu of Warbirds Downunder, we are pleased to announce that we are planning to host two smaller flying events this year in the form of an Aircraft Showcase.
- 29th August 2020 (previously scheduled)
- 17th & 18th October 2020 (replacing Warbirds Downunder)
These events will comply with NSW government guidelines, which means that currently the event is limited to 500 people on site (including staff & volunteers), but we will be monitoring these imposed restrictions and adjusting as required. More information on these events will be sent at a later date.
So there is still hope I can get some aviation action this year. Now just hope the weather co-operates and the Covid-19 situation doesn't get out of hand between now and then.
