Unfortunately, I shall not be able to attend. Jenny and the team have been valiantly seeking Ministerial approval for me to head over to undertake the commentary and I was voluntarily going into quarantine for two weeks in order to do that... however the Minister did not like the cut of my jib....
“Immigration New Zealand is not satisfied based on the information provided that the worker has unique experience and technical or specialist skills that are not readily obtainable in New Zealand. Nor are we satisfied that the worker is undertaking a time-critical role for work in the relevant areas. As such, immigration instructions H5.30.5(a)(i) and H5.30.5(a)(ii) are not met”
Fully understand the quarantine and not a problem for me to take the extra two weeks but there you go.
Very sorry that I cannot satisfy my committment to the show as I love doing it and really sorry to miss out on seeing all my Kiwi mates over there...perhaps next one if this COVID rubbish is over

“Immigration New Zealand is not satisfied based on the information provided that the worker has unique experience and technical or specialist skills that are not readily obtainable in New Zealand. Nor are we satisfied that the worker is undertaking a time-critical role for work in the relevant areas...” How many other equally experienced, technical specialists with the lovable Aussie-Ando accent, "readily obtainable in New Zealand", are available on the specific dates of the Wings Over Wairarapa show? poos and wees...

Zac, Very disappointed. Everyone tried. I also had to gain permission from the Minister on this side of the Ditch as well as Australian Border Force to leave Australia. Just in case there may be some out there who are thinking that I may just be missing out on income.....I do not charge anyone one cent for undertaking airshow commentaries. That includes the RAAF, RANFAA, UK Legends and Midlands Air Festival or any of the airshows here in Oz or in The Land of the Long White Cloud. Just a bed and a sausage sandwich ! I figure that the vast majority of airshows run on half a shoestring and if I have my hand out the chances of that or those shows going ahead in the future are diminished. I also absolutely love doing it and all the people I meet and the great friends I have made over the years.

As I am away from home and have been travelling and busy, I only just caught up on this news Ando. That is very disappointing, but sadly not too surprising.
How are you with using Zoom? Maybe you can phone in the commentary?

I wish we would keep harder border than at present- I see no cases where the possible gain to the country is greater than the risk of letting in Covid. But Covid will pass and the border will open and other airshows will happen - just a matter of timing

What I don't get is how one of my work colleagues departs for Australia today, just to visit relatives, having been tested for the bug and had negative results, will spend a month there, return to NZ and will quarantine for 2 weeks, all with no hassle from the powers on either side of the ditch...

I flew from Christchurch back to Hamilton this morning and waiting in Chch airport I heard a last boarding call for passengers on a flight to Singapore. So who the heck is travelling to Singapore at the moment?

No I did see that - just don't think it is worth risking our health for an airshow commentary - however small the risk. Nothing specific about your case - I don't think we should be letting anyone in until the circumstances change.

It clearly had passengers as well. Maybe freight pilots returning to base as pax or something?
