Since I saw the previous draft of the planned composition of the Flypast, they have dropped the first trio of the historic/heritage component of the flypast which was tentatively Meteor, Vampire and Canberra and also reshuffled the order of flypast of the historic/heritage component slightly. They have also dropped 2 x CH-47F Chinooks (representative of when the "Chook" was operated by RAAF before rotary went to Army) and flypast does not include any Hawk 127 or any of the VIP fleet - Falcon-7X or B737-BBJ. And no drones.
Hope the weather improves a bit before the 31st as well. Next week in Canberra is predicted to be cloudy, windy and high percentage probability of rain. We've already had winter like weather for most of this week, so maybe we'll get lucky and get a little better weather for the flypast.
RAAF Centenary banners have gone up on the flagpoles around the Parliamentary Triangle and approaches to the two bridges - Commonwealth Ave and Kings Ave.

Looking forward to watching this.
Surprised the Tiger Moth and Winjeel aren't featured, maybe the Tiger Moth would be too slow? Notice that the Harvard is in there but not the Winjeel, locally built, I may be wrong but I'm sure there would be an airworthy one available?
Don't get me wrong a fan of Harvards.

Yes, the basic trainer trio of Tiger Moth, Winjeel and CT-4 are not represented, and there are certainly more than enough examples of all of them to provide examples for the flypast. However, I think the issue may have come down to their maximum attainable/sustainable airspeed to be able to participate in the flypast with out creating a virtual airborne 'road block' for the faster aircraft also participating in the flypast. But then the Catalina is planned to take part and we all know what its airspeed is like - they placed it and the Iroquois at the back of the HARS heritage segment and then have a small timing gap before the first of the fast movers arrive in the scene. Harvard is probably seen as representative of all the EFTS training schools RAAF trainee pilots attended overseas during WW2.

Correct in every respect. My latest update on timings lasted 30 mins between Version 3.5 and 3.6. Moving feast........I suggested time between UH-1 and F.35 be increased to 5 mins....F.35 now gone from 300kt to 330 kt GS

Great flypast but it is a pity there are no early jets, re Vampire, Sabre, Meteor and Canberra. Would have been great if there were still airworthy Mirage and F111.
Early trainers could have been represented with Tiger Moth, Avro Cadet and Moth Minor. Also no Dragonfly etc.
Logistically, it would be near impossible to put this together. Maybe by the 150th there may be more ( Mosquito, Beaufighter, Beaufort, Anson).

Australian War Memorial has put up an online exhibition of 'The RAAF in Art'. www.awm.gov.au/raaf-in-artInteresting selection of artwork covering different periods of the RAAF's history. The most interesting and memory provoking part for me is the header illustration for the AWM webpage for the online exhibition. It is of the mural of RAAF aircraft that used to adorn the ceiling of the old Aircraft Hall in the AWM in the 1970s and 1980s before the redevelopment of the AWM and construction of the current ANZAC Hall. I have somewhere, tucked away in my collection, the set of posters that was printed of the mural. Of note ANZAC Hall is closing at the end of this month, preparatory to all the exhibits being removed before ANZAC Hall is demolished to make way for the new larger exhibition spaces and galleries that will replace it as a part of the AWM's broader redevelopment and expansion.

Drum roll .... No 1 is the Pig. Always an aircraft that was special to see, whether at an airshow or random spotting. One of the latter was on my honeymoon in NZ when one flew over Auckland whilst we were being tourists on Mt Eden.

ABC Radio Broadcast available online: www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/nightlife/royal-australian-air-force/13272606We take a look at the past, present and future of Royal Australian Air Force as part of their 100th year celebrations with: Martin James RAAF Historian Wing Commander Mary Anne Whiting Peter Anderson Aviation Expert from the Temora Aviation museum Air Chief Marshall Mark Biskin former Chief of the Airforce from 2008-11 and the ADF Runs for just on 50 minutes, worth the listen. As an aside, HARS today did a flypast for the RAAF Centenary today over central Sydney, in particular from north to south over Hyde Park. Comprised Harvard, DC-3, Catalina, DHC-4 Caribou, Neptune and P-3 Orion. Waiting to see what coverage it gets in tonight's tv news programs. Did notice the 7 News chopper was up in the area at the time and a RAAF PC-21 out of Williamtown was prowling up and down the coast just off northern Sydney beaches to probably get air to air photographs as the flypast aircraft made the approach for the flypast over the northern suburbs. And, the weather forecast for next week's flypast in Canberra is looking very promising. Next week weather by Colin Ford, on Flickr

On the afternoon of Tuesday 30 March there will also be a ceremony at the RAAF Memorial on ANZAC Parade. It will include a flypast, south to north along ANZAC Parade at 3.30PM by 1 x P-51, 1 x P-40 and 2 x Spitfire.
With the airspace planning and holding patterns planned for the main flypast on the 31st, everyone will be entering and checking, and rechecking their co-ordinates, very, very, very carefully. RAAF has posted up a couple of photos of some of the formations practicing for the event near their home bases.

Visitor to Temora today. There to do some co-ordination and practice before events in Canberra the next couple of days. RAAFM Mustang Temora 29032021 by Colin Ford, on Flickr ABC-TV Australia has also been posting up on their FB page and other social media presence, clips from old news stories relating to the upcoming RAAF Centenary. One of the more interesting clips is for the RAAF's Diamond Jubilee Airshow at Amberley featuring Jeff Watson showing the Canberra doing a cartridge start, a piece about the Lockheed Hudson and a piece about the F-111. UPDATE: Four C-130Js from RAAF Richmond have been out this afternoon flying a rehearsal of their flypast sortie on the 31st. The distances on the legs they have flown, including the holding patterns replicate those they will fly on the 31st. Included joining up from an in trail formation to diamond four, altitude changes and holding circuits. All done in a remote area of western NSW. Bet the local farmers enjoyed the impromptu flypast. Think ABC Channel 2 tv showing documentary on RAAF 100....can someone check this? Yes, 9.35PM tonight, repeated at 11.00AM tomorrow on ABC-TV - prime channel which may be other than '2' in some locations. The documentary should be good, has a range of ex and currently serving RAAF personnel. Unfortunately, I am advised a couple of "ooppss"made it into the final documentary script because they didn't get it checked first - the PR and media wallahs didn't check with the people who actually know what they are talking about before giving the script final clearance with the ABC.

Watched the doc last night, one thing they highlighted and you don't often think about is how many crew are lost in training.
Looking forward to the flypast, locally have it for 10am (EST) tomorrow on ABC TV.

I watched it and was OK. I think it maybe lacked an overarching documentary storyline as it came over a bit as a chronological collection of PR clips. For example could have shown the daily life of a pilot cadet or loadie or maintainer etc and intersperse that with the historical clips. Having said that agree the peacetime safety stuff was interesting. The pilots were pissed off at being grounded but was pointed out 3 accidents had the same cause.. Bring on the flypast.
