Does anybody know what the underside colour of this aircraft is?. Really looks to be just light grey, but for an RNZAF scheme it should be(as far as i know)High Speed Silver.
May just be the lighting in the images, as HSS is notorious to detect at times, without some reflected light.

Gosh she looks good. Well done to all involved and as Peter Mac said on Facebook, bring on the wings in 2022!

Just needs NZDF to run a "logistics training exercise" moving some large items from Wigram to Ardmore - say, underslung NH 90 loads and HMNZS Canterbury!

I like the silver fern transfer in the roundel. Was it an original transfer or a modern equivalent?

Response to 2 recent questions..re HSS and the Silver Fern
Because of hangar restrictions the fuselage had to be painted using micro fibre rollers! Unfortunately this precluded the use of HSS as metallic paints won't lie'flat'unless sprayed.Research showed that Humbrol 11 Silver (the original match called for) does not in fact contain any metallic flakes and the closest 'RGB' match was - wait for it - OHAKEA Quarter!
The Silver fern on the roundels were from an original file held and produced courtesy of the Air Force Museum personnel. Silver and black they are printed on a clear vinyl base and will be sealed with a low sheen clear coat.

As per #7 above (other components) The tailfin is at Classic Flyers, Tauranga Airport and work has commenced on its restoration. It should also be placed on record that the tail section components at Classic Flyers have all been completed and delivered to Warbirds ready for installation.

Hear hear, she looks fantastic. And thanks for the explanation re HSS, that makes perfect sense.
Are there any public plans as yet regarding wing repatriation?

Another couple of quick comments .. The team at Classic Flyers led by Mike Feisst have done a great job on the fin and the rudder and these were collected from CF 17 December... the 'reskinning process' made it to the latest NZ Warbirds Op's Order but it will go up on the Canberra website to acknowledge their invaluable input.
As soon as we can locate a suitable work area to be able to handle a wing in the flat- about 14M X 10M - both will be be transported from the AFM at Wigram. Hangar space at AR is at a premium and we're trying to locate suitable space in the Takanini/ Papakura area - if anyone knows of a prospective site and who is prepared to donate same as their contribution to the project that would be appreciated.

Great to see the silver fern transfer is an original. I can remember back in the early days of the Historical Centre (forerunner of the Air Force Museum) we received a shipment of those roundels of all sizes from Te Rapa. Good to see them being used to show that period of our national roundels.

A couple of pictures of the Canberra from a recent visit. _DSC5044 _DSC5045 It's up against the wall of the Great War hangar. That's the rudder next to the roundel.

She looks superb, thank you for the photos Grant! I hope they can solve the question of where to put her when assembled - I can't wait to see her in one piece again!

ON THIS DAY 50 YEARS AGO !!!!Today marks the 50th anniversary of the last operational strike sortie of No 16 Squadron RAF with Canberra B(I)8 aircraft on Thursday 1 June 1972. And this important historical event is recorded in the pilot logbook of 16 Sqn Commanding Officer, Wg Cmdr K J Appelboom, which under the Jun 1 entry, shows that this was the “Final Sdn Op Mission - Last Day Covers” with Sqn Ldr I K St C Bartley as navigator. What is more significant is that this sortie was carried out by Canberra WT 346 – the very same aircraft that is under restoration right now at Ardmore! Thanks to his son Mark Appelboom for sharing this info and the attached Logbook entries as well as the very special “Last Day Cover”. Although the restoration of WT346 includes a transition to the livery of RNZAF Canberra B(I)12 we are gathering any information we can to preserve the heritage of WT346. There has been a great deal of interest from former RAF crewmen and we’re certain we can create an accurate story of the role of WT346 during its time in the RAF. Meantime, the fuselage is now scheduled to be moved to Hangar 2, NZ Warbirds at Ardmore Friday 10 June for public display. Come along and see her and if you can help support us 👍
