The Canberra hit the road earlier today and is on it's way north. It was sighted going through Blenheim.

Rare vintage plane off to new North Island homeAmber Allott 04:50, Feb 19 2021 Christchurch motorists have been treated to an unusual sight, with a rare vintage plane body starting the long journey to its new home on the back of a truck. A Canberra Bomber in storage at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand in Christchurch, is being relocated to New Zealand Warbirds at Ardmore, just south of Auckland – a 1200km trip by road. The main component, the 20-metre-long fuselage, departed on Thursday. The 20-metre-long Bomber body being loaded on to a truck. JOSEPH JOHNSON/STUFF When it arrives the plane, known as a B(I) Mk8, will undergo a two-to-three year restoration program to turn it into a B(I)Mk12 model, which were used by the Royal NZ Air Force (RNZAF) from 1959 to 1970. There are no known B(I) Mk12 planes left anywhere in the world. NZ Warbirds’ Gavin Tretheway said they were grateful for the funding, which had largely come from former Canberra crew members, to have the plane moved to Auckland and restored. Once it reaches Ardmore, the plane will undergo a three-year restoration program. JOSEPH JOHNSON/STUFF “As a former RNZAF Canberra pilot the fact that New Zealand Warbirds are now able to preserve what is considered to be a very rare aircraft is gratifying. “It fits ideally with Warbirds overall aim to protect the heritage of former service aircraft, particularly those associated with the RNZAF.” The Canberra, when completed, will be available for public viewing at the NZ Warbirds at Ardmore Visitor Centre. I also had the privilege to have a look inside the Canberra when I was at Ardmore last Monday. It's pretty pristine, like it just came out of service.

Here is some terrific footage of an RNZAF Canberra engine undergoing maintenance and testing at No. 1 Repair Depot, Woodbourne. Do you recognise any of the airmen?
