Thank you to Nick for arranging the tour on Saturday evening, and to Tony Mills for explaining the Canberra Support Group's work so far, their future plans, and answering our questions. Seeing this machine in person was something highly anticipated for me and it did not disappoint: she's a stunner! Bravo to all involved: she's gorgeous!

Interesting that the flight was designated "last operational sortie" on 1 June 1972. No.16 Sqn was based at Laarburch at that time and was disbanded there on 6 June 1972, reforming again at Laarburch on 8 January 1973. Noting there wasn't a "wartime situation" at Laarburch in 1972 the use of the word "operational" normally reserved for actual combat sorties is again interesting.

The historians and the veterans who lived it always say though that the Cold War was a real war.

Dave, I reckon we could open up a great debate on the status of the "Cold War" in relation to the Canberra. The dictionary definition of war "Armed conflict between two states or two groups of states" intimates that actual shots were being fired? Was this scenario in 1972 a "pre-war" status?

We thought you might like to see a part of the process of getting the Canberra up on its steel display stands in her new home in Hangar 2 and the team that made it possible. We'd like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to Andy McKee (in the orange sweatshirt below) of NORTHERN SHEETMETALS who very kindly donated the materials, manpower and expertise to create the extended stands and frame that NZ6102 sits on to make her safe in a hangar that is open to the public - it was a fantastic surprise and we are so very, very grateful - so we'd also like you to support Andy if you can. Along with Andy and his team, NZ Warbirds members Tony Miller, Gavin Trethewey, Dave Smith, Colin Goult and Allen House were on hand to clear the hangar and make space and provide additional man power to get her into place. THANKS GUYS ββ πΈ Colin Goult

Bravo to all involved, that's excellent to see! Noting there wasn't a "wartime situation" at Laarburch in 1972 the use of the word "operational" normally reserved for actual combat sorties is again interesting. For what it's worth, everything I've read about RAF operations during the Cold War refers to any non-training/maintenance etc sortie as "operational".

Looking good. Between that, the Skyhawk and the Sabre thereβs the beginnings of a nice Cold War collection at Ardmore. An ex-RNZAF P-3 would make a nice addition in the next year or so

It is, Rotting a complete and utter waste. It's one aircraft I'd love to get flying. The Sabre is parked over by AvSpecs last I saw?

To CSG Volunteers and other Supporters. Attached is the latest update (No14) and whilst progress has been relatively slow we're planning to make a concerted effort in the New Year starting with the port wing.. There will be a need for plenty of elbow grease in sanding and ultimately painting the various components ! To those who have been part of the journey since February 2020 thank you for your input. If you don't make it to Ardmore before Christmas have an enjoyable festive season and stay safe if you are travelling .. Regards Tony
