Super stoked to see the news that the Mk XIV and Focke Wulf will be flying at the show. I had seen some footage of the Spitfire running its engine but the FW had been entirely off my radar. I saw the announcement on Facebook and I see they’ve been added to the participating aircraft list. www.classicfighters.co.nz/what-youll-see

Super stoked to see the news that the Mk XIV and Focke Wulf will be flying at the show. Here's the Facebook post: And this lovely machine passed through Whanganui the other day for petrol on its way home, it was great to catch up with Tracy and Ryan and to finally see the beast alive!

RAAF C-27J Spartan from 35 Squadron RAAF was announced via the event FB page about a week ago.
The Aussies are coming! A big Omaka welcome to the Royal Australian Air Force, which has confirmed their appearance at Yealands Classic Fighters this Easter Weekend. The C-27J Spartan will be based at Woodbourne and will display on both Saturday and Sunday.

It's a shame as I loved the corner at Omaka - Keith Skilling in the Corsair starting his display from behind your right shoulder - Boom Like this? Corsair -2 2017 airshow. I'm looking forward to capturing the Fw 190 again, been a bit absent for a few years, so a welcome return.

All the latest on the airshow here: WONZ 272 is now online. The Yealands Classic Fighters 2023 Airshow kicks off this week on Good Friday at Omaka Aerodrome, Blenheim. In this episode Dave Homewood talks with the Airshow Director, Gavin Conroy. Gavin gives a preview of what to expect at the show, and he runs through the new aeroplanes and acts that people can expect to see there, from Harvard NZ1044, the Lockheed Electra Junior, five Wacos together in the air to the Bristol Fighter replica. He also talks about some of the old favourites that are returning, including the RNZAF Black Falcons display team, the Mk. XIVe Spitfire and Focke Wulf 190 replica, the two Yak 3’s. and the V-2 rocket! Here is the link: cambridgeairforce.org.nz/WONZShow/2023/04/wonz-272-classic-fighters-2023/

I cannot believe what just happened. I am totally overwhelmed. I can hardly put it into words. My good friend Al Marshall listened to my latest WONZ Show tonight (linked just above) and in that he heard that I am not going to Omaka for Classic Fighters because I am saving for the UK trip. He got on the blower and rang me at midnight to tell me I am wrong, and the absolute good bugger just booked me some airline tickets and insisted I am coming! I'm completely gobsmacked and so over the moon. It has quite literally brought tears to my eyes.
Al says he is happy to do it, and says having spent two years on the dole thanks to Covid and now being back flying airliners again, he is happy to pay something back to the people who helped him when times were tough.
This is incredible. I have literally spent at least the last month explaining to people that I was not going this year, and why, and also trying to tell myself that it would be okay staying home and missing it... and now thanks to Al, I am going! It's an Easter miracle.

What a good bugger! Well done Al! And Dave, aside from Zac, you probably would have missed it the most!!
Now, all we need is for the weather to make up for its earlier behaviour....

After listening to the pod I admit to thinking "Who's going to step up for Save The Dave 2023?"! Bravo Al, and Dave I can't wait to see you there!

Now we've got that settled: - who else is going to be there? _ how about we arrange for a social meetup at some stage over the weekend?

Now we've got that settled: - who else is going to be there? _ how about we arrange for a social meetup at some stage over the weekend? I'll be there from Thursday morning, along with my mum. My brother is joining us (but staying separately). So less flexible than normal but should be able to at least drop by to any gathering.

I am sure like every other Classic Fighters, everyone who wants to socialise will head to the MAC Bar after the flying day ends. So I am sure I shall see a lot of familiar faces from the forum there.

! won't be there this year, it'll be the first time I've missed but as a result of an accident I can't climb the stairs at the gold pass stand and neither could I stand around for three days and as well as those problems I no longer have my motorhome which means no accommodation.

I can't find a gates open time on the website or my Gold Pass ticket, only the flying display start and end. Previously Friday has been 8am I'm fairly sure (moved to 9am due to wet ground 2017). Same for Sat/Sun?

Shorty, you will be very much missed.
My plan is to be around from Thursday too. I'm hopeful I'll bump into people throughout the weekend as well as at the bar - there are so many folks I've not seen for a longer time than I realised! Reconnecting with so many of you after so long is a big part of why I'm so excited for this weekend.
