Colin, I love those two photos. Hearing about your experience - and Don's - gave me the biggest smile! Some great shots there Dave, I'm excited to see more. And it was great to read about your experience, it sounds like you had an incredible weekend! I suppose I'd better pop in a few photos, I've been threatening it for long enough! Nice Zac, really like how you involve the people in your photos. Thanks Peter! I've found I really enjoy getting candid photos - I hope the subjects don't mind! Friday, part 2: DSC_9190 by Zac Yates, on Flickr DSC_9205 by Zac Yates, on Flickr DSC_9227 by Zac Yates, on Flickr DSC_9250 by Zac Yates, on Flickr DSC_9259 by Zac Yates, on Flickr DSC_9262 by Zac Yates, on Flickr DSC_9265 by Zac Yates, on Flickr DSC_9267 by Zac Yates, on Flickr The keen-eyed among you may have noticed a comparable lack of ground-to-air shots: my Dad's trusty old Nikon D70 suffered a stuck shutter a few weeks before the show and I found a cheap D70S to replace it. Unfortunately I didn't school myself on its settings before the show, and it has communication issues with the big lens which meant I left the whole thing in the car on Saturday! However Sunday dawned and I figured I'd try again...here's part one of Sunday. Zac, great selection of photos, and as commented, they make a big difference when you include the candid shots of people. Was always one of my aims when representing NZ Aviation News at the airshows, "Machines are great", but its the interaction with people that completes the picture (no pun intended)

Was so very glad to make it back to Omaka this year after all the disruptions over the past few years, even if the weather over the weekend wasn't what everyone was hoping for, it was still a top airshow.

Finally managed to (a) get home, and (b) get the photos sorted. As you can tell the weather throughout the show was quite grey, and the dull flat light made ground to air photography fairly challenging. Therefore I tried to get airborne aircraft when they were against the surrounding hills rather than the non-existant blue sky. I'll pop up some of mine, with the majority mostly of aircraft that I had not seen before. The John Smith collection that most of us had come to see: The RNZAF did their best: more to come

Some more: The RAAF Spartan A14-003 The Texan IIs did their best, coping with the low cloud Back in the aircraft park Fairchild ZK-AUN/2 has yet to fly at Omaka while WACO ZK-AEL has Comper ZK-ACG/2 has a way to go yet Ex-RAF Tiger ZK-BFS has a long and chequered history, but really looks the part more to come

Great pic's thank you Peter, so the "Mapua on Estary" does this refer to a Mapua in the UK or Mapua where John Smith's Mosi, Mustang, P40s, Harvard and others used to reside?
Thank you........

Great selection of photos Colin and Peter, thank you so much for sharing! Great pic's thank you Peter, so the "Mapua on Estary" does this refer to a Mapua in the UK or Mapua where John Smith's Mosi, Mustang, P40s, Harvard and others used to reside? The latter - I believe this new Pup is based over that way.

Mapua, downwind from Motueka, land of the heavy rain as we found out the week after Easter.
