Hi Chris. Thanks a lot for that offer, and that may be possible. I will talk to my parents later and see if that would be OK. Thanks again, Aidan

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTNick Sheehan of New Zealand Warbirds extends a special invitation to members of the Wings Over New Zealand Forum to attend a special pre-airshow event at Ardmore. If you're coming to the airshow on Sunday the 5th of June, and you'd like a little extra insight into the NZ Warbirds collection, Nick invites us to join him and other NZ Warbirds members for a hangar tour, a chance to get up close to the aeroplanes - including the WWI aeroplanes - and a chance to talk with Warbirds pilots and engineers, ask questions and get photos. There will be sausages on the bbq, and the bar will open after the hangar tours. Nick suggests a 3.30pm start on Saturday 4th of June, and to attend will be $5.00 per person to cover the bbq, and show your pre-paid Warbirds On Parade ticket for the next day. Pay the $5.00 for the bbq in cash on the day. Beers at the bar will be extra. This is a fantastic opportunity to have special access to the collection and the people who keep everything flying. So we know numbers to expect, please indicate here if you are keen to join us for this event. And if you're bringing anyone else, how many people. Start the Warbirds On Parade weekend with a very special event just for WONZ and Warbirds. Thanks to Nick, and to Frank Parker, forarranging this. Count me in

The Queens Birthday weekend warbirds events are usually something that I don't miss but unfortunately for me, this year I have other engagements so can't make either day.
I would have loved to do the forum tour as the last time I saw inside of some of the hangars was when Ace Edwards gave a me personal tour quite few years ago.
For those that are going, can I please ask/request/beg that lots of photos and video are taken and posted.

Fingers crossed for the weather, looks a little average currently but not terrible. Northeasterly winds aren't usually too bad at Ardmore, if it goes more northerly/northwesterly it can bring a lot of low cloud.

I came, I saw, I had a terrific time! Three hour-long display slots were planned throughout the day but unfortunately the third was rained out, however a lot of cool stuff got to fly and there was a fantastic crowd. And lots of meeting up with friends old and new! Pics when I get home but in the meantime some below-average smartphone video to whet the appetite: I use the justification that these videos are more for hearing these magnificent machines more than seeing them

Good to see it went ahead ok, shame about the third display but after so long without an airshow at Ardmore it's great to see nonetheless. A shame I couldn't be there this time.

the WW I rotaries sure sound unique! The Siemens-Schukert was a true revelation - what a BEAST! My friend commented it was like an Fw-190. Who'd like some photos? If you read Zac's words again, which you have quoted, you should see that he is entirely blameless of your "warped world" comment. Don't shoot the messenger as the saying goes. I might just score a "like" from Zac for coming to his defence...

Score a 'like'? oh dear. I stand by my statement too. Personally, I would have kept a "warped world" comment to myself. If you really did think it was worth making such a comment you should have implied "your friend living in a warped world" not "you..." (Zac). Scoring a like would be Zac thanking me for coming to his own defence. Zac and I discussed "likes" on Saturday and he would know what I meant in my post yesterday. Okay, enough of this, let's concentrate on New Zealand aviation.

The Siemens-Schukert is a pugnacious, high-performing machine that looks like it means business - I totally understand what my friend meant! It makes a terrific racket and I immediately wanted to fly it myself! Saturday dawned overcast and chilly, but the rain seemed to be far enough away for me to be optimistic! Wonderful and extensive coverage thank you Zac. The Mustang and Kittyhawk being for sale and perhaps leaving New Zealand shores will be a bit hard to take. Lucky there are some worthy replacements coming along to step into their shoes!
Was speaking to a fairly well know Australian warbird collector recently, he told me we are custodians of these machines, he believed if we pass them on in better condition then we received them we have done our job!

Thank you gents! It was wonderful to finally see all these magnificent machines in person, worth the admission alone for me. Dare I suggest this was the largest number of Great War types ever to be seen in Auckland's skies at once? Next up were three generations of training aircraft in solo displays: Harvard NZ1092/ZK-WAR flown by Gavin Trethewey (in what the commentator said may be his final display), a Tauranga-based Yak-52 (profuse apologies to the pilot for neither remembering his name nor photographing much of his display), and Dave Brown in the lovely prototype CT/4 Airtrainer ZK-DGY.
