Another question folks, best photo spots at Ardmore, planning to be there on a Saturday, visit the Warbirds hangar and hopefully get some flying action, is there some more favourable spots around the runways that public can get to and is morning or afternoon more favourable? Thanks so much...... Note the Corsair Lane entrance from Airfield Rd is closed. Sun comes north of the runway (03/21, as 07/25 is not in service) at 9:30 currently, so that side better for photos. If they are landing from the west then there is a good-sized grass/gravel area to park on Corsair Lane where it turns north away from the runway. From the other direction, there is a driveway/gate near the east end of Airfield Rd that you can park on/near. OK viewing from the carpark next to NZ Warbirds, but this is further away than the other side, and the middle of the paved runway. I'm only there in the weekends, so not sure on timings otherwise. Most activity is the aero clubs, but if you are lucky there will be a Harvard team practice (might have stopped for now as no airshows until December?). Random other Warbird flights might happen, but I doubt there are many scenic/experience Warbird flights at the mo.

Hello Planecrazy, I can certainly help you out with a visit to Tauranga Airport on Sunday 10 July. Let's hope the weather is kind. You are probably aware that the airport supports a diverse range of aviation activities be it Classic Flyers, where I am the Archivist and a Sunday afternoon tour guide. I don't think there is another Air New Zealand served destination that supports as many things. Apart from Classic Flyers, the DC-3 ZK-AWP is located nearby and if it is still there when you call I'll let you onboard. There is also gliding, parachuting, helicopters, gyrocopters, maintenance facilities, and a large range of vintage aircraft (many airworthy). What older New Zealanders will remember is that 10 July 1967 was Decimal Currency Day. Working in the Bank of NSW I was well aware of it! What is lesser known is, that day was also the day the airport was re-opened with the completion of the sealed runway. So, I look forward to hearing from you so we can make it a worthwhile visit. I suggest you send me a personal message to planewriting. Regards, Peter Layne

... Thames, never knew it, a place Keith Park had spent some time. A great full scale replica of a Hawker Hurricane. So did you surprise your family by going "Look, a Hurricane" and spring a surprise avgeek diversion on them?

It's a pity that the Aussie Sabre has gone from that collection.

Lovely stuff Peter - I wish I could have tagged along! So great to see three of the WONZ Peters together (separately), too!
