And the announcement of Warbirds Down Under 2024 and a 'special event' TBA at Temora later this year. The Temora Aviation Museum is pleased to announce that Warbirds Downunder is returning in 2024! The Chief Executive Officer of the Temora Aviation Museum, Murray Kear, announced today that the dates for the next Warbirds Downunder Airshow are Saturday 19th October and Sunday 20th October 2024. Mr Kear said, “thank you to everyone for their patience while new dates were identified.” The last Warbirds Downunder was held in 2018 with the 2022 event cancelled, due to the region experiencing significant rain and flooding, which most New South Wales and Victoria had received, it would have been impossible to host a safe event. “The decision was made in late September to cancel the event, in an attempt to give ticket holders the opportunity to alter their travel plans.” Mr Kear said. Warbirds Downunder is one of the largest airshows in Australia, where over 50 aircraft are exhibited and flown over the two days. In 2018 over 20,000 people attended the event. Mr Kear said, “The 2024 event will be bigger and better than 2018, with tickets expected to be released 12 months prior to the event, and the list of display aircraft to be announced as they are confirmed.” Temora Aviation Museum will be hosting an exciting event towards the end of 2023 with further details to come shortly. For more information visit www.warbirdsdownunderairshow.com.auThe long wait begins..............

HARS have made a post on their FB page indicating that:
QUOTE: There has been a major change to airshows in Australia. I understand how this has come about and I think this is going to result in some spectacular changes. The "Avalon Airshow" and "Wings Over Illawarra" will now be on alternate years. The next "WOI" will be in 2024. But !! WOI will be upgraded to three days and become very much what the Avalon airshow is. Like I said ... I understand how this has come about and I think this is a major plus for the Illawarra region ... I'm looking forward to this major World airshow in 2024. END QUOTE.
Comments made to the post from some who were at Avalon indicate that the organisors/organisation that currently run the Australian International Airshow at Avalon will be taking over the running of Wings Over Illawarra and the change will include the move to a three day event, a different focus in the type of airshow it will be and aircraft to be showcased.
Some excerpts from online news stories about the announcement of the changes:
The organisation behind Avalon Airshow will become the new operator of NSW’s biggest annual airshow from next year.
As part of the 10-year deal with the AMDA Foundation, Wings over Illawarra will shift to taking place every two years but will extend from a two to a three-day event.
It will also be renamed Airshows Downunder Shellharbour and feature greater industry involvement.
The airshow will stay at its Shellharbour Airport location south of Wollongong, and the first event under new management will take place on 1 to 3 March 2024.
Shellharbour City Council has given AMDA a ten year licence to run the event.

Latest announcement from Temora Aviation Museum regarding their 1 April 2023 Aircraft Showcase and upcoming 'Special Event' on 21 October 2023. APRIL 1ST AIRCRAFT SHOWCASE FREE ENTRY TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE COMMUNITY Temora Aviation Museum will be hosting its first Aircraft Showcase of 2023 on April 1st. The event will have a change of venue and will be held at Lake Centenary, which is located just north of the Temora aerodrome, and as a bonus, the event will be free of charge. Flying displays will be conducted from 12pm-2pm and the Museum will also be open from 10am- 4pm, with complimentary entry. Deputy CEO Peter Harper stated, “We are pleased to be able to deliver this free event to say thank you for the support over the past few years of cancellations due to Covid and adverse weather. Additionally, the change of venue to Lake Centenary will allow us to trial the venue before our new and exciting event on October 21st, “A Day at the Lake”. Stay tuned for more information regarding that event.” Peter continued, “The date of this event being April 1st is just a coincidence, this is not an April Fool’s Day prank!”. Scheduled to make an appearance at the April Showcase, will be the RAAF Pilatus PC-21, which is capable of sustained low-level speeds of over 320 knots. Hydraulically assisted ailerons and roll spoilers can produce fighter-like rates of roll in excess of 200 degrees per second. In addition to the PC-21, the April Aircraft Showcase will also display all serviceable aircraft from the RAAF 100SQN Temora Historic Flight Collection and other visiting aircraft. Some of the aircraft displaying include a Supermarine Spitfire, Wirraway, Tiger Moth, A-37 Dragonfly, Birddog, English Electric Canberra, and Ryan STM S2, as well as visiting aircraft including a Mustang, P-40 Kittyhawk, Harvard and CT-4. Family and friends are encouraged to bring a picnic rug and enjoy the surroundings of Lake Centenary with a great afternoon of flying scheduled. Barista coffee and food will be available to purchase or alternatively, you are welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy in shaded seating areas. All pre-purchased tickets will be fully refunded prior to the event but are still valid to attend this new location. Although entry is free, we do ask that those attending register online here>> www.trybooking.com/CGTTC to ensure that spectators are adequately catered for on the day. Sounds interesting, but about the time this is taking place I will be stowing the tray table, making sure my Passenger Arrival Declaration is filled in and getting ready to arrive into NZWN, enroute to NZNS, then onto NZOM.

This weekend sees the back-to-back aircraft showcase and airshow at Temora Aviation Museum and Tocumwal.
Saturday 16 September, first aircraft showcase at Temora after the winter break. RAAF has already announced that a PC-21 will be doing a solo display on the day. Last few days has seen activity on the ramp at Temora with the Cessna O-2 and A-37 Dragonfly both out being prepped for the weekend.
Sunday 17 September, the action moves to Tocumwal for their annual Airshow. A number of the aircraft from Temora will head over there Saturday afternoon after the finish of their aircraft showcase, where they will join a range of other aircraft, including those from Paul Bennett Airshows, 100 Squadron RAAF and other local aviation operators for the Sunday airshow.
Weather at this stage sees a change from previous years with blue skies, moderate winds and temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s C being predicted from Thursday thru Monday. So "slip, slop, slap" sunscreen, sunnies and a wide brimmed hat will be the go along with plenty of hydration. Also out that way it is Canola season, so lots of bright yellow fields around the region to brighten the backdrop for any air to air photography.
Ando, if you have received a copy of the Allison Mustang book, bring it with you for signing, if you haven't got one yet, I'll bring one with me just in case. And my good pen!
