Have been into modding, rebuilding and converting my remote control warbirds for
many a moon. Decided to give the biggest project I have ever taken on her own
thread. Below a link to some of my other stuff….

This one started life as a 1/6th scale P40E all foam, she is very light so flies well,
this means if I add a bit of weight she should be good right, famous last words!
So here’s a video of her after first assembly, yes I am a little obsessed by the
undercarriage!
While I intend to improve her scale look somewhat will not go the whole hog as
you can put a lot of work into a model and get a dumb thumb moment as total
all your hard work in the blink of an eye!
Not happy with the super exgagerated panel lines, for some reason all rc foam
manufactures are obsessed with overdoing these so pack filling, a big job!
Been a P40 fan for too long so read a lot about them and found some stuff on
some all silver jobs, A24-459 is a bit of a stand out as due to a taxing accident
she had her wing replaced, hence all silver fuselage and olive drab wings.
An article I found on A29-459’s life.

A war weary, weathered wing, hmm weathering is something I would love to get
better at, aircraft in the Pacific area copped it operating off crushed coral strips
so really want to try and replicate this look. As A24-459 had a replacement wing
from an earlier machine I really wanted to try a portray this look.
So a tried an tested technique, salt, so what you do is lay down a base coat, in
This case silver or bare alloy, then spray water on the area then sprinkle table
salt, thank you wife. Wait for it to dry overnight, then spray the top coat. Wait
for it to dry then brush off the salt. The result a random chipped effect where
the thrown up coral chunks and dust would have blasted the wing.
Hopefully in the above pic you will see the results of this effect on the leading edge?
On the wing surface you can see the salt before I brush it off, just waiting for the
paint to dry so all will be reviled soon, fingers crossed I haven’t overdone it!
