The Toll aircraft are, as far as I'm aware, owned by Airwork, which is a New Zealand based company. The Qantas 737s with ZK regos are operated by Jetconnect, which is a division of Qantas which operates New Zealand services only so presumably it makes more sense to have them registered here.

Sadly Errol, us Kiwi's are particularly well versed these days when it comes to NOT getting decent pay for a decent days work. Regretably, pilots are the worst of the worst when it comes to under cutting each other...just to get on that next big shiney toy. The rates of pay that Toll/Airwork as well as Jetconnect are offering are disgraceful. Ostensibly guys & girls are being paid 20-30% less than their Oz counterparts..along with poorer pension plans (if any!) and health insurance..loss of license etc etc. I think its more reflective of our "nice guy" mentality, that gets taken advantage of by the corporate climbing MBA sociopaths that tend to inhabit boardrooms these days..who are merely interested in their 6 monthly bonus cheque..so they can move on to the next project. I tried to come back to NZ a while back..but there was no way I could afford even a reasonable standard of living as a married guy with kids being paid the paultry sum that Jetconnect were going to offer...it was something I told the HR person and Chief Pilot personally when I attended an interview...at that point I left. Apologies for the the rant/moan..but its something that just gets under my skin.....us Kiwi's are worth more than we think we are!

ZK registered Qantas B737's are operated by Qantas subsidiary & NZ Company JetConnect on a NZ AOC. Pacific Blue/Poly Blue jets are a NZ company but Virgin Blue subsidiary and hence also operate ZK aircraft. Jetstar operate mainly VH (oz) rego's with a mix of kiwi and Oz crews flying on Oz licences.... I think they get away with VH aircraft in NZ because of the Open Skies agreement between NZ & Oz governments. That though seems to be a one way street and should be dropped imho.
Sorry, didn't see the next page when putting my 2 cents in. As a side, JetConnect only operate transtasman services on behalf of Qantas, they only do this because as Haughtney mentioned it is cheaper to run and start services from this side of the Tasman.

Thanks guys, I had a feeling that was going to be the case. I build servers and rack systems (trained in networking too) and looked at moving back to NZ, with 2 kids, Wife and Dog it didn't make economic sense. I guess that hits all sectors.

Airbus A319 VH-VHD made its first visit to Auckland today. This aircraft is used to fly to the Antarctic from Melbourne and Christchurch. A different job today taking a band (no prizes for guessing which one!) to Sydney, Australia. Cheers

Cathay started their 744 summer season today replacing the A340. Nice to see the 744 back on duty. Finally caught Emirates latest A380 A6-EDN coming in to land today. Colin

Atlas Air 747-200 freighter N524MC flew 5 flights between Avalon and Auckland. Other flights were operated by Singapore Air Cargo with B747-400 freighters.

Ah I see, so not as impressive as I'd thought from the news reports, I thought they had a fleet of 747's.

The other 757 that operates in NZ replacing the 727 that is now too noisy for Sydney does a daylight departure during summer on Saturday mornings. Seen here taxing for departure on runway 23L at just before 11:30. Cheers

I had a cause to visit AIA today and captured these photos. The first one is Air NZ but since I'm not up on modern civil airliners can some confirm what it is. I presume a B777. The second one could be a B727 morphing into a B757! or if I lined it up right an extended tail to the B757. ;D The next one is a little bit more of a close up of the B727. Be quick if you want to get any more photos of it as it is going for a test flight tomorrow before heading off to its new owners in Malaysia later this week. I couldn't leave without taking a closer one the of B757 as well.
