JTL had a wee bit of excitement while landing today? Recovered okay and well done to the pilot. Colin

Ouch ! That first shot looks REAL ugly ! Looks to have been caught out by a bit of wind gradient and landed short (and hard ) . Hopefully no harm done

Wow! Amazing sequence there Colin. You were in the right place at the right time for that one. I'll bet even you were wincing a little seeing that occur in your lens.

Fantastic images, Colin.
I bet the pilot wishes you weren't there though! ;D

I was of two minds whether to display the Dragonfly landing and as the outcome was okay I went ahead and it is only displayed on this web site. If anyone objects or it upsets the pilot then I will withdraw the photos? My intention is to give support and I congratulate the pilot in managing the circumstances with a safe outcome. Well done.

I think they are great photos Colin, I doubt whether the pilot would object. There have been more embarassing photos posted on the internet of worse events!

Joe, I agree with your sentiments.
Anyway, what's that saying - "a good landing is one you can walk away from"?

Great shots Colin, glad the outcome was ok.
I've had a Robin "drop out from below me" when a strong headwind suddenly seemed to disappear as I crossed the threshold at North Shore. Being much smaller and prop driven, a judicious and rapid application of throttle softened things out to a thump but it scared the proverbial out of me nonetheless.
Cheers, Stu.

The CAA web site says it is an Agusta AW139. Its not one I've ever heard of before, but its definitely a relation to the NH90 - got the family looks....

That's what I was thinking regarding the NH-90.

Its not really a relation to the NH-90 (altough Agusta is a member of NH helicopters which makes the NH-90). The NH-90 is militarychopper and is a bit bigger.
The AW-139 is designed as a civilian helicopter by Agusta and Bell (Bell pulled out later in the programme). Its now a Agusta Westalnd chopper after Agusta merged with Westland. Designed as a replacement for Puma, Bell 212/412 (which HNZ is replacing the AW-139 with - has two on order), Bell 205 helicopters and had success in sales in the oil industry (which HNZ is being used for), medevac and SAR roles.

Yep, that was Adam getting checked for banners! He did a great job, a natural that boy As for the banner, a belated birthday for my Mother in Law. We were trying to do it on Boxing day however it was even a bit windy for me, so we turned it into a training day for Adam on the 29th. We also had it filmed by flightpath tv (Doco's for Sky) so keep an eye out latter next year. Great photos as always Colin. ;D MiL is ecstatic as she did see it but didn't get any photo's.
