Haven't heard anything Andrew, maybe it was a precautionary landing rather than an emergency?

I saw her there this afternoon on the western ramp with the cowls off the starboard engine. Hopefully not too serious.

Apparently a problem with a cylinder from what I've heard. (realise that's pretty vague, sorry!)

I hope all will be rectified soon. Good luck to AMY's team.

I heard two mags failed......had a mate fly a charter up to NZWG today, I'll ask next time I see him if he found out anything.

Do the levers tell a story? Andrew, which way do the mixture levers work?

It's been thirty years since I last flew a Dak, but it looks like port (No1) engine mixture is at ICO (idle cut off), and Starboard (No2) is in a lean mixture position. So perhaps No 1 was shut down normally. Links initially indicate a mag problem on No2, but pics would indicate that something more serious happened, warranting an engine change. No2 probably would have stalled after landing (no windmill effect) and prudently the engine controls would have been left where they were. (?) ICO is the rear position of the quadrant (closest to the camera), with a series of gates moving to the front end of the quadrants for full rich. Cant find pilots notes right now to recall how many positions there are (ico, lean, autorich, emergency rich, rings a bell), but someone else might remember? Throttle levers seem rather far forward from what I remember; prop levers are about what I remember for a go-around (but then, mixture lever would have needed to be rich then too). Ah! It would make sense to a Dak pilot....
Having said all of that, if engineers had already removed the engine, levers could have been anywhere by the time the pic was taken!
Nice cockpit/panel from what I had to fly!
The best part was the engine start! Ya needed three hands to get the Dak started, particularly on a VIP departure while the left seater was welcoming the VIP on board. Both engines needed to be started before he hit his seat! It was a slick operation.

Zac, who told you that two mags had failed? If that was so, we'd be looking at a Dak with a feathered prop and probably a mayday call. Magneto failure doesn't often result in a complete engine replacement... Give your source a bit of a slap

Boy... I need to check in a bit more frequently! Great ... and sad shots Joe... You can't take anything from the position of the levers as things move around as you take the engine off... just ask me, I love getting my hands dirty ;D ;D But where are the radio's? Ours are in the centre of the panel.... It's seems a bit more serious than just a pot (Cylinder) as normally that does not need an engine change, probably made some metal in the process... As for a double mag failure... hmmm pretty unusual so I would really check on that ... Oh well, good news is that it happened close to a good base... not like a double engine change that we needed on a Bou... Bacau, East Timor, Christmas Eve... pilot's fault (Not me BTW) they went to climb power in auto lean.... P.S any one see DAK at Wigram?... I have some very interesting shots...! Cheers Andrew
