Well, in case any of you are planning to visit Aussie in October; you might like to plan your visit to coincide with this:
Defence Force Air Show, RAAF Base Richmond, Sydney, 21-22 October 2006.
"Where the bloody hell are ya?" ;D

What will be there? Any ideas? Will it just be RAAF or warbirds too?

Dave, not sure yet as the full details haven't been released.
If it's anything like the Amberley one I went to in 2004, it'll mainly be RAAF stuff, but with a few warbirds present too. I'm hoping that since Temora is only a short distance away from Richmond (as the Hudson flies!), that they'll bring a bit of their collection along.
As soon as more info comes to hand I'll post it on the site.

Corsair, I suppose it's feasible to stay in Sydney and use the sdvertised train service? What do you think. I have enough Qantas FF points for a freeby to Seedney!

Hi Colin, a normal weekend train service takes about 80 mins to get to Richmond from Central Station, but I'd imagine the airshow train would pretty much be an express so I should think the journey time would be somewhat less than that. So it's really no worse than trying to get from Glendowie to Auckland Central on a bus at peakhour! :-) You can find more info about Sydney trains at www.cityrail.info

Can anyone help with a company that does a package deal from New Zealand to this airshow and return?

I'd be curious about a package as well if there's one out there. If Phil82 decides he's going he's not leaving me behind! I don't have the airpoints he does though, better start saving quickly.

I don't think there will be any packages as such for this airshow, but I'd check Koru Airways or Wallaby Airlines websites to see what ticket and accomodation packages they are offering for Sydney in October. Quite often they can offer some good savings on those sorts of things.
Surely you've got rellies or mates in Bondi that you can stay with? :-)

{Moderator Mode/on} Craig, I'm not sure you should refer to Air New Zealand in that particular way. The disaster still invokes strong feelings here in NZ, and it's not nice to turn it into a joke mate. [Moderator Mode/off]

Yes, you're right, Dave: previous post has been altered.
Plus, I forgot to mention the other airlines flying across the Tasman too, which might be worth a try.

Is anyone thinking of going other than me and Mumbles [he's very attached to me you see] ?
It looks like it might be a good'un.

Just booked my passage to get there, Air New Zealand seems to have the cheapest fares at the moment.

Now that this is almost upon us, are there any rumours, hints or allegations about attending aircraft? The official site hasn't been updated for a while.

Sam, haven't heard anything else, but knowing the RAAF, the website probably won't be updated until a couple of weeks before the show happens.
I'll see if I can dig anything up.

Have heard no rumours of anything really interesting. Just the "usual" ADF stuff.
Might get a C-17 if there's one there. They are there every week or so
