Have just recieved an e-mail from SQN LDR Glenn Davis (NZDF PR) about this airshow: it has now been moved to Saturday, 3rd March 2007 - and not early-April as first planned.
Further details will on the RNZAF website (www.airforce.mil.nz) early next year.

mmmmmmm might see if I can pop up for that one. wonder if they are going to get something from aussie, maybe the new c17 could pop in. They will probably send an f111 over or 2, maybe 3 as the last time , they broke down. If Winston has a nice whisper in Condaleses ear then some thing like a few f22's would be great. just dreaming. What would be great if Eurocopter got wind of it and send an NH-90 plus an A109, just for recruiting purposes. I remember the big one they had in 1983, cars were still leaving the car parks at 9pm due to traffic issues.

I supposse it would be politically incorrect to have a skyhawk do some test flights, and what do you know there;s an airshow on here at whenuapi at the same time, well bugger me. and on return to Blenhein buzz a certain house in Mt Eden. oops was the bomb release button

You don't even need a bomb, a quick squirt of 20mm should do the trick! ;D

they are disabled no bombs left as well so maybe a drop tank, then again they are fixed if he pulled heaps of g's then maybe a slat could come loose.

Tut, tut, tut. All this seditious talk against our glorious leader. You may get in trouble if you're not careful.

Fourty minutes at least as long as you not in rush hour...If you catch a cab don't take one at the rank it will cost you heaps...call discount cabs and tell them you have the black discount card...eg discount to the city approx $30 others $50..60

It's only 35km by road from Auckland airport to Whenuapai. It usually takes 45 minutes by car, as there's lots of traffic lights and you travel mainly through suburban areas (50km/hr speed limits). The cost of a taxi from the airport is $110-130 (airport surcharge coupled with the the most expensive tariff. Trust me - I do this about 6 times a year!) From Whenuapai to the airport, expect $80-100. I would suggest getting a shuttle both ways, at about $50 each way, but it may take longer, with more stops along the way. This of course will depend on the time of day - at rush hour (in either direction), double the travel time. If you intend catching a taxi/shuttle on the day of the airshow, expect to at least triple the time, as traffic builds up heavily around Whenuapai, indeed some taxis/shuttles probably wouldn't even consider bookings during the busy periods. You can assume that the airshow will be confirmed for that day, there is already a leave embargo in place for Whenuapai personnel over that period.

45 minutes by road at 2am 2 - 2 1/2 hours at busy times By bus? you'd need to go via the city, I'd allow a full day for that.
Turn these timings around - West Auckland/North Shore to Auckland International . . . that's why we need commercial use at Whenuapai.

The longest it has ever taken me from Whenuapai to the airport is 1 1/2 hours, due to the road works at Hillsborough (for the new motorway) at morning rush hour. I would suggest that what we actually need is a decent public transport system, rather than another civil airport when Mangere is so under-utilised at it is.

rush hour has been mentioned a couple of times but as this airshow is on a Saturday how much of a difference does it make. I could only make it for the day I will fly up with Air NZ but it its to much of a pain I will flag it

For that taxi price, you'd be better off hiring a car at the airport for the day. Hire cars are much less. That way you won't be charged extra for sitting in traffic.
Better still, is there anyone in South Auckland heading to the airshow that could pick Gavin up from the airport and give him a ride? Just a thought.

Tibor, does the Transport Section not do an airport run anymore? there used to be vans going between Whenuapai and Magere all the time in my day. A free lift with them beat's that taxi fair.
