I have just been told the Aussies are sending over some F111s to this and that they may be sending over a C17 to recover the support crew , so when is this happening ?

Excelent. F-111's will be awesome. The airshow is on the 3rd of March.
See the calendar on this site for various upcoming events. Click 'Calendar' on the top red bar under the forum logo.

Well that will certainly be a crowd puller: seeing the F-111 displayed up close is a wonderful thing. Hopefully Auckland will put on some good weather for the event.

I can confirm 3 F-111 and a C-17 are coming for the show. They plan to arrive the Monday before. I did find some photos at work the other day of an F-111 undergoing some maintenance in the 6Sqn hangar, if I find them again I'll try and post them.

Excellent, that's awesome news, thanks Les.
6 Sqn as in our 6 Sqn?
Do you know if other Air Forces are coming/invited? Such as the RAF, France, USA, etc?

Can anyone please let me know what time the gates open for the Whenuapai open Day, and also what time the flying display will start?

Gates open 0900ish, warbirds display start 1100, military display from 1300. Times for the flying may vary a bit, I'll see if the final programme is out and see what I can find out.

Thanks Les, that's very helpful.
An admission price would be appreciated too please if you can find it yet.
I plan to come up with a mate, and hope to get there fairly early. I'm really looking forward to it.

As I understand it the support crew arrive on the 28th on a civilian flight and go home on the C17 . Not sure when the F111's or the C17 actually arrive . Is it true that the C17 can carry what one of our Hercules carry on it tailgate ?

That's probably about right when you consider that a C-17 can carry a payload of 74,797kg (according to Boeing, but the USAF says they can carry up to 77,519kg), while an RNZAF C-130H has a max payload of 17,250kg.

$5 an individual or $20 a carload. Ithink if theres 2 in a car you'll have to pay the carload fee, to try to get people to reduce # of cars I suspect, although, if you register for the air force special ops game you'll get sent a wristband which will give you free entry... Photos of the pigs at 6Sqn as promised.

Thanks Les, great photos.
I am sure Mike and I will be happy to pay $10 each for our carload. It'll be well worth it.

Hi, I hate to pedantic but you'd think the RNZAF would know the plural of Aircraft is Aircraft not Aircrafts!

For one, I can not understand why they have the open day at Whenuapai the same weekend as the Pilot Expo at Ardmore (March 3-4).I might be better to have the events at different weekends?
