Definitely the 744 will be around for the medium term, as Cathay haven't nominated their replacement yet. Cathay has ordered 747-8 freighters, so that may be an indication of where they're looking for pax aircraft...? The cockpit "solve the world's problems in one flight" thinktank agrees that Cathay made the right decision to not commit to the A380 early on, and CX was a bit burnt by being the launch customer for the A340-600. We have another 15-odd 777-300ERs turning up, which is relieving the 744 of a couple of the North American routes. I understand we'll keep on flogging away on the high density long haul routes like LA, LHR and most of the European destinations.
I seem to remember that Pack 1 had failed in flight, and wouldn't reset. There's 3 packs on the 747 so it's no biggie (2 on the 757?). There's no fuel saving with a pack shutdown as the other 2 packs will default to high flow to compensate.

Cheers Barnsey, yep the 757/767/777 are all two pack beasties...from memory if one is inop the restriction is FL350 for despatch etc. I'm gonna have to stop drinking with you CX boys in New York..apparently a few of our hosties want to have a crack at the CX Kiwi's and Ozzies...but boys being boys..we always end up drunk in a little Oz bar on 38th street and utterly incapable of getting up to no good

These shots weren't taken by me, but by another ex A4 guy also working for Pelair at the same time. Woomera - it's a barren featureless desert! The Pel Air flightline at Nowra

A combined ship strike with a Raytheon jamming Lear. Both companies (Pel Air and Raytheon) have CASA dispensation to fly down to 50 ft for military tasking. For what it's worth, I'm flying the other aircraft.

I've flown the Sioux, Blackhawk and S-76 (only once each mind you!), but no photos as too busy trying to not turn the things into a smoking pile of metal pieces! Flying a helicopter was definitely good fun, and something I'd like to do a bit more of in the future. Also good to have a comeback to the chopper boys who used to quip "If you can't hover, you ain't worth sh*t". I've had a play around in the Harrier sim, so if I can hover a jet does that give me more street cred with them? This is as close as I get to flying a helicopter at the moment: T-Rex 450 SE v2. This HAS been turned into a smoking pile of bits a few times over!

Link to a video taken during a ship strike with Raytheon, during which we found a submarine.

Went to the RAF Musuem at Hendon a couple of days ago on a layover. Had the camera all charged up, but the battery only lasted for about 6 shots.... Needed to read Dave's thread on camera batteries.... or even better - buy a new camera! Other's photos obviously much better than my happy snapper approach, but don't know if the real Typhoon was hanging from the ceiling last time a forum member was there.

Nice photos there, Barnsey. I like the angle you've snapped the Typhoon on: it's almost like you're formating on him!

Wow, Hendon already has a Eurofighter Typhoon! Yeah, that Cathay flypast got a few people in a lot of trouble.

Great photos. That A-380 shot looking at the cockpit head on realy shows how massive it is. It also looks a lot like a groper (hapuku) from that angle.
Is the Typhoon in Hendon one of the prototypes or something? What a shame your battery died. The photos you did get there are great.
Is that Cathay Pacific 777 shot real? There's no shadow. Mind you, it does look a bit overcast. Amazing if it is real.
