Awesome pictures Colin- is the TV3 footage on their website? I couldn't seem to find it myself? Oh, and if Doug ever needs that spare seat filled for a spare test flight or something... I'd be more than happy to fill it!

I was at Ardmore today at the same time the TV3 guys were and there is going to be a 2-3 minute segment on Doug and the aircraft on either Saturday or Sunday. This is just a heads up and if they play it another time sorry about that but that is what they told me. Congratulations indeed to Doug, flew alongside him and Keith this afternoon and they then left us and flew alongside the TV3 guys. Those guys were great, we both got what we needed and at the end of the day thats what it is all about. Was good to catch up with Colin and breifly say hi to Fockewulf. In case you are wondering Colin we got home with 10 minutes of light to spare so the timing was perfect. One and only post over the past couple of weeks and will be back in another 2-3. On the air 2 air front, flew alongside a Cessna 402 and R44 last weekend for some marketing photos which was fun and there will be pictures of those aircraft on my website soon but as the Spitfire photos were taken for Classic Wings, it will be a little while before these are seen but what a beautiful blue sky we had today. Thanks again to Doug, boy I was impressed with the restoration of the aircraft, it looks really really good and you just have to see it in the flesh to appreciate just how good it is and the two place set up is first class.

Yes it was great catching up Gavin and that was good timing before light went. Well done. A few more photos with some of Gavin and the camera ships. I liked this one and I think a few missed the low pass on the first flight so thought I would add it. Please if anyone else got some shots of the Spitfire please upload them. This one is a long way away and of the Nanchang circling to land. Landing Taking off in camera ship mode with rear canopy removed. That must be cool Gavin? Spitfire take off. Harvard take off as TV camera ship. Much later in the day MXT went up too. A good day all round and some great photos were taken. Thanks to all those that took part and the great team at Avspecs. Cheers, Colin

Some months ago I was approached to recommend a paint scheme for the spitfire (just after it was bought) with a new zeland connection. The research I did was on Colin Gray who I had interviewed some years before and I made the recommendation to adopt one of his Mk9 schemes for which there were sufficient details to confirm serial number and code letters. Glad to see it appears that this was taken up. Colin Gray was new zealands highest scoring air ace of WWII with 27.5 confirmed kills and shares in several others

Good choice of colour scheme Paul, it would have been a minimal amount of painting needed I expect, and it looks superb from every angle. It also is significant because the 81 Squadron scheme was the first squadron to take the Spitfire into the desert war. Plus is also denotes a famous pilot who was a true gentleman. I had the great pleasure of sharing a few beers with him and his wife, among many other aces, at the opening of the New Zealand Fighter Pilot's Museum and we got on very well together. When he found out I packed parachutes in the RNZAF he wanted to know all about it, because he said he'd jumped behind enemy lines once - something he decided not to put into his book as it was hush hush work. Such a bloody hero!
Super photos there Colin, that head on shot is the dogs nuts!

Where, precisely, at Ardmore is the Spitfire located?
I'm heading out there next Thursday for a bit of a catch up with Pete Houghton at NZ Warbirds and wouldn't mind trying to get a peek at it.
Cheers, Stu.

Stu, if you go to AVspecs they should be able to help you.I would imagine they are still doing bits and peices to it,before it goes to its eventual hangar home.
Joe unfortunately I do not have either photoshop or photobucket for picture down loading etc. I'd like to post some but Kereru seems to have most of the better shots I have. I had a minor camera moment on the first Spitfire's take off and the camera almost took a first flight of its own! Potential great shot on offer and camera no workee workee.
I am seriously thinking about getting something more user friendly ,for in flight shots this camera is not working to well.

Wow, those cockpit shots are amazing. Really nice shots, I love the contrast of colurs of the interior greem with the sand colour and the blue sky!

HEADS UP:Just logged in at work and according to the news rundown, the TV3 story is scheduled for 18:24:45 (roughly) with a duration of 3:01 .... of course this is subject to being moved if other stories are dropped, added, shuffled around etc .... Cheers, Stu.
