Beags, I think you might be right, as I'm sure I saw an APU inlet like that on a V Australia B777 that was at Avalon this year when I was walking around under it. found this image showing the APU inlet door open on the r/h side of the vertical stabiliser. I have heard of twin pack APU's. Would this mean there is another inlet on the other side or ?? might be a bit small to see, but here goes

Barnsey is correct, Its an air outflow valve that works with the pressurization system.
The RAT is located just behind the main boggies on the 777

Well I'm glad someone actually knows what it is, instead of just making a uninformed guess like I did. ;D
In hindsite, having an APU inlet in that location wouldn't make a lot of sense - unless you didn't mind sucking up lots of FOD or small children and animals. ;D

They had one of those Dyn'Aeros at Auckland Aero Club very briefly a while back, I think possibly around the time they had the last open day, basically doing quick demo flights. One of my friends flew it and reckoned it was a surprisingly quick little aircraft.

Guys, yep its the outflow valve which consists of clamshell type doors that are regulated either manually, or automatically... Barnsey is right, the outflow valve maintains a small positive pressure during Takeoff (on the 757 and 767 this happens when N1 exceed 70% and the weight on wheels sensors sense the aircraft is on the ground) The APU door is at the rear of the jet on the right hand side, the door opens before the APU starts..and closes after the APU is shutdown. The APU is essentially the same Garret turbine engine core as you see on the metro. The RAT (ram air turbine) is deployed when a certain set of parameters are met..ie a double engine failure..hydraulic problems..or just a manual deployment. For it to be effective, the aircraft needs to maintain a minimum of 130kts IAS. The RAT powers the left (main) Hydraulic system on the 757, and the centre (main) system on the 767. Hope this clarifies things!
Can't remember if I've posted this before but...

Where's a Lotto win or second mortgage when I need one Probably biased but the Alpha/Robin is a nice aircraft to fly and the extra 40hp wouldn't go astray.

I've been bitten by a Duck before; they can get pretty nasty when they want to. Don't know if you'd trust them to defend a country though..... Joe, next time you're caught in a queue like that, just pop you arm out the window and wave your Gold American Express card at the refuelling person - and they'll be over in a flash! ;D

Two nice looking machines (just to confirm that the 180/185 is a beautiful machine, and to stir the anti-ATR brigade).

The 180/185 Family of aircraft may be beautiful but that is one ugly paint job on that particular example, something only the owner could love. The ATR on the other hand is all class.

Look what turned up in Hamilton today (short visit). Didn't have a camera on me so I held my cell phone up to a pair of tower binoculars...result not too bad considering! Not content, and seeing as I was on the way home anyway, I trucked over to RFS and got a slightly better photo (on the cellphone again) I'll have 2 please!
