Nice shot Dave! Moist - yes you can see the flap trailing edges creating the localised vapour.

Your photo Dave? Your camera takes a nice sharp photo if it is. Nice shiny new paint job by the looks of it with RNZAF marking to follow?

A lovely proud pic there David - may it stay at the top of the forum for a long while!!! The hard working bomber squadrons in the past have not received the same public perception/accolade as the glory of the fighters. Time has allowed the changes and recognition of the risk and losses to the slow bomber squadrons who did the bulk of the offensive from the air. Thanks.

That new header is the best for quite some time. Who is the "pilot"? It could almost be a period shot, with ground crew in the cockpit.

The chap in the cockpit is one of the ATC Cadets who was helping out on the day of the unveiling. He had the prestigious job of ensuring the parachute covering the nose art fell away cleanly when the nose art was unveiled.

Nice header Dave , but then I am biased. The cadet in the pilots seat is Flight Sergeant Jake Eron from No. 3 squadron ATC. He was one of the cadets who volunteered to be ushers at our services. I am sure he will remember this role and I bet he said " bombs gone" when the parachute was released. I would have.

Incidentally Peter, typically what would have the bomb aimer said on pressing the button and releasing the bombs from the aircraft? 'Bombs gone' or 'Bombs away' ?

According to our boys ," bombs gone" was used followed by "hold" to allow for the photoflash to work , the seconds would be counted so the all important target photo was be taken, followed by the navigators " steer xyz " . A quick check of the bomb bay for hang ups then the BA would come up top as a lookout. At least thats how it was meant to work.
