and though he (to my knowledge) didn't fight in the battle, Keith Park provided great leadership (referring to the gents above). In many ways he was possibly the most important individual in the Battle of Britain, perhaps even more so than Stuffy. Remember what Lord Tedder said of him: "If any one man won the Battle of Britain, he did. I do not believe it is realised how much that one man, with his leadership, his calm judgment and his skill, did to save, not only this country, but the world." Excellent quote!! I watched the movie "Battle of Britain" this week, and even the character of Keith Park came across as Lord Tedder described him.

Yup he was a fine fellow and his pilots loved him.
My Dad played golf with him once back in the day, said he was a very impressive character.

Would be nice to have Brian Carbury in there as well, he's so often overlooked but he bagged more than any other Kiwi in the Battle. Your wish is my command. Brian Carbury is now added, I'm pleased to include him.

Dave, your work on the BoB montage is first class. I saw the pic this morning and thought "I don't remember that other bloke being there on the left. After reading the new comments I realised that my memory had not failed me. Well done and hats off to your photo-shopping skills.

Although I'm sad to remove the wonderful No. 21 Squadron Harvards, as they've been favourite headers for me, I thought it is timely to put a wee tribute to the kiwis who flew in the Battle of Britain 70 years ago. The Harvards may return later in the year. Maybe time to resurrect this from a couple of years ago? Boredom and audio editing software......

Cheers Joe, yes I think Mr Warwick was a great character. Michael Bates was such a brilliant actor in everything he played. He was actually born in India and spoke Urdu before he learned English.
Anyway, the new header is a photo montage I made tonight which hopefully depicts some Wellingtons of No. 75 (NZ) Squadron RAF in the 1939-40 period. The Old Bones and Donald Duck nose arts were on genuine machines. this is created by layering a real wartime coloured photo of one machine several times to create three in formation, and then some artists licence to add codes, nose art and change the background a bit. It ended up looking ok, so I thought I'd make a header from it. I hope it looks ok on other monitors, it does on mine.

My pleasure Al. I can still hear a little bit of ringing in my ears from that taxi run. I think the Bristol was one of the highlights of the last show as I'd never seen one 'alive' before. And I'm so glad I was there with you for one of the airshow's most enduring memories, The Great Bristol SneaK. That was absolutely classic. How the security guard missed the biggest fattest shiniest aircraft on the field being snuck from its park all the way down the flightline and almost into the tent where the official function was interupted by the roar of big radial engines I'll never know. ;D ;D It was a great way to get invited in and score some free wine mate!

I wonder if you can rig up a Bristol Hercules to somehow become the world's most powerful spud gun?

Somewhere over Canterbury, and Vincents didn't lumber, they were a potent striking force. These are aircraft from No. 3 (GR) Squadron in 1941/42. Photo by Cpl Douglas Vahry, from Noel Arnott's collection. Air Force Museum of New Zealand copyright.
