Or as was stated at the time of the disbandment, the only fighters in our skies will be Foreign. Let us hope('cause that's all we've got) they are friendly!.

Only if it's electric, and we aren't allowed to use these for agriculture anymore.

Posting this here since it’s the most recent dreamer thread Aside from money, the biggest (or one of the biggest) obstacle to standing up an ACF again is the loss of capability that came when it was originally disbanded. I’ve had the thought that a possible way to recoup this capability in an affordable way would be to form some personnel-only squadrons which are then shipped off to the States and embedded within existing USAF fighter squadrons. Essentially, we provide the USAF pilots and ground crew, which I understand they really need at the moment due to long-standing retention issues. As our guys cycle through a tour or two they return (to make way for the next batch we send over) and start building the training programmes etc here and we could start with some affordable lead in trainers (Hawk?) and slowly go from there. Obviously there are a lot of ifs within that but as a high level idea does it have any merit?

That is the only way it could be done, postings to the US, UK or the RAAF. And it is exactly what happens whenever the RNZAF is about to take on new aircraft types anyway - examples being the No. 3 Squadron personnel who were posted to Germany to gain experience on the NH90 there, or the No. 5 Squadron personnel currently posted to the US Navy to learn how to operate the upcoming P-8.

Yeah I meant at a deeper/more prolonged level than those deployments, but you’re right in that the principle is basically the same. Seems obvious now you’ve said it! Haha.
